i like the way this thread is going. head to head, lewis may be one of the best heavyweights of all time. but so is larry holmes, even an old holmes. if i had to bet my house on it, i'd say that lewis once again rises to the level of his opponent and wins. but it's no guarantee and I certainly wouldn't say I'm terribly confident in that prediction
I will add an interesting side note to the consensus. Frank Maloney who was managing Lewis at the time, regarded Larry Holmes as the greatest heavyweight of all time head to head. He saw him as a threat, and would not alow Lewis to sparr with him, in case the fight came up later and Holmes picked up pointers.
Lewis finds him with that right hand and batters Holmes into submission. The scorecards are roughly even at the time of the stoppage.
