Norton's was better than Earnie Shaver's too. Herol Graham's was also tighter than Julian Jackson's, and Duran's better than Hearns, Pep's than Saddler's.
Tyson KO Lewis doesn't have the chin to beat prime Tyson, and he couldn’t box and move as well as Buster Douglas.
He took Ruddock's smash and kept coming forward. Lewis didn't floor a ghost of Tyson with his Upper Cut in 2002 in the first 7 rounds.
While I rate Lewis slightly higher (3-5 and Tyson 7-10) I think a prime version of Tyson stops him within 5.
He couldnt finish Tucker! He would have been caught with more punches and heavier punches on the way in from Lewis.
What is prime Lewis ? The first version who pawed with the jab and you could see his telegraphed right from a mile away.....the one that actually did not play it safe ? Still got ko'ed with one punch by a genuine crack head. Second version who tightened up his defense , boxed very safe when facing a threat, added the upper cut, clinching/leaning/holding behind the head and learned to dictate a fight because he never was a conditioning monster.........still got waxed by one punch by a stiff glass jawed street brawler who started boxing as a adult....same version who went pretty close with trail horse Mercer and while winning both times against a washed up Holyfield he looked less than impressive because he was dead afraid to get caught on his fragile whiskers. My conclusion Early version would fight /trade aggressive trying to land that telegraphed right...........falls right into Tyson's preferred method of fighting .....Tyson KO between 3-5. Second version, fighting very safe a la Tua/Holyfield but cannot get the timing on the too quick Tyson out hustling him to a 8-4 decision........the speed of hand/foot/head movement will make a remarkable difference in Tyson pulling it off...........Lewis does not have the fluidity of Douglas or lateral movement, or stamina and certainly not the chin because a irrefutable fact is, once Lewis is down , he stays down, absolute fact.
Not really, Lewis never really showed extraordinary handspeed or combination punching. Given that Tyson took his best punches continuously in 2002 at his worst for 8 whole rounds, don't see anything up Lewis's sleeve to drop Tyson at his best.
Tyson was much more past his prime than Lewis when they fought. Tucker was quite a bit better in 87 when he fought Tyson than in 93 when he fought Lewis. Anyone who followed boxing continuously from 85 until 02 would understand this. Also one factor OP ignored is Tony Tucker, in his prime, had a better chin than prime Lewis. Tony Tucker was prime when he fought Tyson in 87.
Absolutely. OP is another in a line of uninformed posters who seems to think chronological age determine which is the older fighter. In this case, Tyson was undisputed hw champion before Lewis turned pro. True, Tyson had 4 yrs of. No fights between. 91-95 but was clearly not as good post prison as pre prison.
Helluva battle. Tyson KO 6 Lewis. Probably the best thread on this subject... https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/lennox-lewis-vs-mike-tyson-prime-for-prime-who-wins.112813/
Lewis used the jab more under Steward and threw more 1-2`s he would have destroyed Bruno with Steward in his corner, his right hand was dreadful in that fight and Manny spotted this and trained McCall to exploit the faulty punch. Lewis`s right was much straighter under Steward and he landed it more.
