Well I think the quality of the fighters at the time can be called into question. but I believe his roster is longest, I think the greatest line up of punchers is Ali due to the quality of the fighters at the time of the bouts. Frazierx3 Liston x2 Floyd Patterson x2 Cleveland Williams George Foreman Earnie Shavers Ron Lyle Jerry Quarry Oscar Bonavena Ken Nortonx3 Joe Bugner Chuvalo x2 Doug Jones (iffy) Bob Foster (iffy) Mac Foster Im sure I’m missing some this is all just off the top of my head. Of course he has some old war horses on his roster as well but I think my point stands IMO.
I don't care how angry Louis was. According to Rocky fan logic, being 40 lbs lighter isn't a big deal. If two guys are a similar height and the lighter guy is far more skilled he should be able to at least match what the heavier, less skilled guy managed. By their logic Spence should be able to at least drop if not KO Louis.
Over 12 I think Lewis wins a decision over 15? Hmmm I would still go Lewis but closer and I think Rocky’s chances increase.
Other than his 2 hiccups against McCall and Rahman, Lewis was very consistent for the most part. He wasn't constantly either "hot or cold"...those adjectives belong to guys like Holyfield, Douglas, Braddock, Walcott, etc, guys who had some nights where they looked amazing, nights where they looked like garbage, and everything in between. I wouldn't describe Lewis that way at all. Even when he was disinterested he was very professional and didn't get suckered into unnecesary brawls opening up or going for the KO. The Tua and Tyson fights are perfect examples of him being clinical even against an opponent with many huge disadvantages. If Lewis wasn't being extremely cautious, he was being very aggressive and looking to take you out ASAP like the Golota, Ruddock, or Briggs fights. Very rarely did Lewis have crappy/inconsistent performances like against Billups, Vitali, or Mercer. That was the exception, not the norm. The only entertainment value is seeing the incredible mental gymnastics of people who refuse to acknowledge any disadvantages for Rocky. We might actually be able to make some progress in threads like these if certain individuals were willing to at least meet us halfway with some concessions that Rocky wasn't superman without the kryptonite weakness. The funny thing is many of these same people who vote for Rocky to beat guys like Lewis with a straight face will turn around and accuse us of "bullying" Rocky or putting him in hopeless matchups when the reality is many of us do not even make these stupid threads and are simply responding to them. For proof, the guy who started this thread also happens to have voted for Rocky.
I wouldn't class Bugner,Jones,B Foster ,[at Hvy ,]or Chuvalo as punchers. I never said Lewis met the most punchers but that he met plenty. How many did Corbett meet and what were the results?
Not sure what Corbett has got to to do with anything, I was iffy about Jones and B Foster, but Bugner and Chuvalo could hang plenty hard IMO.
End result would be a Johnson vs Ketchell, just that Spence would be only one hitting the canvas, and it would be a lot quicker than Ketchell did. Mr Louis says: "He can run, but he can't hide."
There's literally not a best version of Marciano that has a chance against the worst version of Lewis.
Marciano was the best conditioned fighter in history, most fighters are selective with their hard punches to pace themselves but Marciano could throw bomb after bomb with the same power intensity, non stop till the end and eventually he wore his opponents down
Always a slight chance Lewis could be complacent against a no hopper Marciano in this contest. Ali used to mock Marciano but in that simulation fight admitted that the guy was a lot tougher than he could ever anticipate. If Lewis becomes complacent and careless Marciano could land something in the right spot but he should on paper not win this fight
Believe it or not, Marciano was a cagey fighter, kinda hard to hit. He was as tough as they come and one of the best conditioned fighter ever, I think he goes the distance. That being said, he will have major trouble connecting on the tall Lewis who will play it safe. So, Lewis by a boring decision is the most logical pick
Corbett has nothing to do with it I mixed up the Lewis threads!lol I don't class Bugner as a puncher, and I saw a lot of him.
