I'm not saying they have to get it right every time. I'm saying that someone who provides detailed breakdowns and gets it right more often than not (especially with those high profile hard to predict fights) is demonstrating a greater understanding of the sport than someone who just offers the same basic safest option opinions. Many boxing trainers, pundits and so-called scholars of the game often opt for the latter option, which is why I don't have the greatest respect for their opinions on hypothetical fights, especially when their opinions echo the same tone as their actual predictions.

If you were blessed with being tall and have ever had to fight a guy that was good at fighting short, you know that being tall isn't all that it is cracked up to be. It is hard to hit a guy like that. So much of what you have to do to hit him- jabbing down, spreading your legs, etc..- shortens your reach and makes you easier to hit. For example, when you jab down, you lean into a right hand over your jab.
But Lennox would be 50 pounds heavier than Marciano. When he put himself in that position, he would lean on him and push him down. Any time that Marciano got close he would push him down and wrestle him.
There was somebody that called Marciano a basic fighter. Idiot.
Dundee didn't think so. And I have no doubt in my mind that Charley Goldman knew a little more about boxing than any internet poster. Even a "hardcore."

That might be true, but it doesn't mean that offering facts (not opinions, but facts) is an option that doesn't checks all the boxes when it comes to demonstrating a great understanding of the sport.

Where the hell is this going ? I feel like we set a record for subjects changed in a discussion that will probably stands forever!

Finally a sensible breakdown. I have the utmost respect for Marciano and never would fully count him out but against all the fighters to whom ever lived I feel Lennox is the worst matchup for him. Lennox could move or stand in front of you or lean. He beat many a good short men to prove this in Tua and Tyson.

Without reading the posts, let me guess: "Marciano's height is too short so Lewis kills him." "Marciano's reach is too short so Lewis kills him." "Marciano's weight is too low so Lewis kills him." Marciano would be a Light Heavyweight today so Lewis kills him." Marciano would be a Middleweight today so Lewis kills him." "Marciano could drain his water weight, weigh in as a 147 pound welterweight, and then re-hydrate 40 pounds to 187 pounds by fight night so Lewis kills him." "Walcott and Moore knocked Marciano down so Lewis kills him." Does that about cover it? :p
