Louis and Holmes are almost the same size. Holmes had a longer reach, but the difference isn't differentiating.
Yeah, Larry was 42 though, six years away from a win over a top ten opponent...he’s bound to be better than a 37 year old Joe Louis who won twice as many comeback fights and had beaten rated fighters that year. …not forgetting prime for prime Larry was always rated greater than Louis anyway! so negligible height and weight difference is going to tip things in Larrys favour?
No. He used to walk around at well over 200, and trained incredibly hard, (according to historians, harder than any fighter who ever lived) to get to 185. He would be weak as a kitten if he decided to dehydrate to light heavyweight or super middleweight. Though on paper I would favor a peak Lewis because of his size and better skills, I certainly believe Rocky would give even the best version of Lennox pure hell, and I believe he could beat him, due to the fact he was a more dangerous roughhouse fighter than evander.
You spent about 5 years on this forum comparing Rocky to Muhammad Qawi, Spinx, Byrd, and multiple other fighter who do not even remotely resemble Rocky in their fighting styles in order to argue Rocky's chances against super heavies. Seamus using the Justine Fortune fight isn't any less ridiculous than the laughable comparisons you've made.
Every fighter that dehydrates to LHW is weak as a kitten on weigh in day. That's why they have a period to rehydrate to their actual weight (which is usually around ten pounds higher). Many LHWs are also around 200 when not training. It's far from uncommon. Rocky might have trained himself down to his optimum fighting weight, but that was certainly not the lowest weight he could have physically boiled down to using modern weight cutting methods (read: diuretics) else he would not have been in a fit state to fight. The statement about hardest trainer that ever lived is spurious hyperbole; how the hell would anyone know? Like it or not, anyone who entertains this fight is pitting a LHW against a HW. You can argue for Marciano all you like, but it's sometimes important to bear this in mind before jumping off the deep end.
Rocky vs someone like Beterbiev is a much more feasible proposition. Rocky simply isn't a HW by modern standards, whatever he was considered in the past.
Outside of Norton where's Shavers's rep for being such a crushing puncher? Where are his ATG knockout victories?
Jimmy Ellis for one. Jimmy Young for two. Roy Tiger Williams for three. Howard Smith for four. Joe Bugner for five. Jeff Simms for six. Then there are the examples where he decked Larry Holmes and wobbled Ali in losing fights. what do we have for Hasim Rahman?
Yes, I see Holmes as better than Louis, I've always seen it that way. Prime vs prime, for me Louis is nowhere near the top 10 all time. But I have him top 2 achievements wise.
Marciano's got this. What answers would Lewis have against the Brockton Blockbuster? The man busted blocks for God's sake. Not to mention Lewis's block has been busted before..twice!!! Simple mathematics.= Rocky Marciano by a knockout.
Remember the day as this thread contains one of the most noteworthy achievements in ESB history. choklab has actually schooled someone. It takes me back to Tyson - Douglas, Becker winning Wimbledon in 85, Raducanu the U.S.O. last year, The Patriots in 2002, Greece winning euro 2004, the Miracle on Ice and so much more. Who woulda thunk?
