    They also knew Lewis would beat the **** out of Bowe. Bowe's whole career consisted of mostly fighting bums, sprinkled in with an occasional fight with Holyfield

    Yes Lewis took the fight on 2 weeks notice, that is correct.

    How in the world do some of you presume to know what Newman and Bowe supposedly "knew??" :patsch Not only is this pure speculation, based more on Lewis camp propaganda than reality, it is clearly contradicted by the fact that they were ready to make a fight in early '95. All Lewis had to do to fullfill his end of the bargain was to stay vertical against McCall. :yep

    As often seemed to happen when Lewis was set to face one of the other top guys of the era, he couldn't seem to do what was necessary to get the fight made.:-(

    and so di Lewis. Vitali was already training to fight on the undercard as Lewis was training to fight Johnson on the headline of the same card.
    Vitali said he had been training for Lewis for 2 years and was in great shape, only a pound difference than his previous fight!
    Lewis came in 8 pounds heavier than his last fight.
