That's because a lot of boxing fans judge fighters on looks. They see what fury did and say 'unordinated, clumsy, lucky' brcusse fury doesn't turn them on with his chiselled body They then see Joshua beat some homeless guy and lose there minds and think he sparks anyone out because they have a hard on for them. These guys aren't boxing fans just puffs
Vlad is nothing like lewis different style .Lewis would KO fury early.Mercer and Bruno would probably KO wlad.the Mercer who fought lewis not the totally shot version who wlad beat.
Lewis, easily. There really is no comparison between the two: Lewis is an all-time great, Fury is a decent boxer in a threadbare era. A prime Bowe, Tyson, Holyfield, Wlad and Vitali would beat him too. I like Tyson Fury, he's a decent talent, but come on...
Lewis and Wlad have similarities with their Steward-trained styles. Manny helped them work out some of the rough edges. Wlad had more a more educated right cross, while Lewis improved it over time. Not that Lewis didn't have it before (the straight right over Ruddock's jab to the body that dropped Ruddock was a beautiful shot), but he had a bad tendency to throw this ugly long winging right hand that opponents would often see coming. Steward helped Oliver McCall take advantage of Lewis's weakness by timing him when left himself open when throwing the right. Wlad has a shorter left hook, Lewis obviously had a better uppercut. The main difference I think, and why Lewis was the better fighter, is having more dimensions and reacting better when taking punches. Wlad has this weird thing where it looks like he's starting to panick when punches are just grazing him. I remember one fight a little while back, he just took a grazing jab and his arms flailed out like he got shot his legs did a goofy dance, then he held onto his opponent. Lewis showed against Mercer, Vitali, and Briggs that he could handle incoming leather better. Anyway, Lewis stops Fury. Simply a higher class of fighter. I never really liked Lewis, but he was indeed a great fighter.
People always forget Golota was mysteriously late for the Lewis fight , was not allowed to warm up and entered the fight stone cold, not to mention be was already a bit of a slow starter. Which is why Lewis jumped all over him immediately. Lewis would not outbox Golota easily, but would probably have won due to a foul by Golota.
Golota was a weirdo and a headcase. I remember thinking/hoping he would beat Lewis, based on how well he performed against Bowe, and having wishful thinking that he wouldn't self-destruct. But so often, Golota just fell apart mentally, whether it was quitting while ahead, or freezing up against bigger punchers. Then late in his career against Mollo, he shows a lot of heart and guts out a tough win with a terribly swollen eye.
as an aside to this, I do think Fury would've got sonned by quite a few guys, but when was Corrie Sanders ever prime :huh
I always wondered why he was late, Golota was such a headcase god knows why waited until the last minute to show up. I wonder if he kind of knew that he was out of his depth as Lewis had used him as a sparring partner before so he had an idea of what was awaiting him. Golota was very good when he wasn't falling apart mentally but it's one thing to out box Bowe but another to out box the superior Lewis. Golota couldn't miss with his jab against Bowe but Lewis was far better defensively than Bowe and easily evaded the jabs Golota threw while easily landing his own jab and knocking Golota's head back on more than one occasion. Had Golota not been taken out in the first round I feel Lewis would have out boxed Golota easily behind his superior jab.
Damn, I never even knew about the post-fight seizure. I just remember him being said to be all out of it and wandering the streets before the fight. http://www.nytimes.com/1997/10/05/sports/boxing-golota-is-hospitalized-after-lewis-s-knockout.html
