Vitali had issues when his face started falling off. Lewis would have to be pretty lucky to get that right twice.
Yeah no. 1. Vitalis pizza face was not luck. Vitali had 3 or even 4 different cuts on his face. 2. That was a overweight Lewis a couple months shy from 38. If you think Vitali would have beaten Lewis in a rematch thats a totally fair assessment but this is a prime for prime match up
1) It was the problems with his vision that allowed Lewis to land more often 2) Lewis was wise to duck the rematch
Because Lewis almost took his head off with a right cross at the beginning of round 3 that doesn't change anything because whos to say the exact same thing wouldn't happen in their primes. Lewis would have tagged Vitali way more and the odds of more cuts opening up would increase. Regardless even if we give Vitali the fairy tale advantage and say he'll be injury free the whole fight, Lewis would press the action and tag him up far better than he did in 2003.
Frank Bruno was also ahead on the score cards against Lewis until he got brutally stopped in round 7.
Yeah but Lewis was old and poorly conditioned against Vitali. If you want to claim Vitali was better than a 37 year old, out of shape Lewis then sure but a prime Lewis would tax that ass. It's funny that you keep ignoring that Lewis was overweight and past it. Vitali wasn't ahead on the scorecards against a peak Lewis. And even after all of this he still didn't win.
Vitali had his chance and didn't take it against the worst version of Lennox Lewis we saw. If VK couldn't win under those circumstances it's beyond me how anyone could think he'd beat a prime, in shape and motivated Lewis, literally makes zero sense. It's like saying "yeah Keith Thurman lost to a 40 year old Manny Pacquiao but if Pac had been 10 years younger Thurman would have won". Makes no sense, no sense whatsoever.
Yeah but prime Lewis was KTFO against Rahman. Cardboard chin, yeah? Prime Lewis couldn't take a shot, he'd have been obliterated against Vitali.
He got overconfident and didn't see the shot coming. He ran through Rahamn in the immediate rematch quicker than Rahman beat him. He's taken hits from Morrison, Mercer and Tua and ate them fine when he was serious. Also if Vitali would have obliterated a prime Lewis why didn't he obliterate a 37 year old, overweight version
I think Lewis gets overconfident and doesn't see Vitali's shots coming either. Clearly Lewis' punch resistance was inadequate when he was younger.
Are you joking ? lol. Lewis could get overconfident but WOULD he ? It's only happened a few times in his career, most other times he boxed well or applied edecated pressure before unloading hands. And Lewis's punch resistance was not better against Vitali that's just nonsense. Vitali caught him clean numerous times and couldn't take him out
Vitali only got stopped on cuts once in his career. I'm betting that something that happened a few times happens more than once No its not. Yes. Proof.
Because the only opponent who tagged him up a lot was 37 year old Lewis. Thats why. 4 cuts is not luck, it would have happened against a prime Lewis. It's not proof. As a matter of fact if anything his chin was probably worse due to the past wars. Lewis just wasn't super overconfident against Vitali like he was against Rahman and saw all of Vitali's shots coming. If he couldn't beat that version of Lewis then no way does he beat Lewis on his best day.
