Lennox Lewis vs Vitali Klitschko, round by round scoring

Those last 30 seconds of round 6 tell the story, those last 30 seconds show what would of continued to happen through rounds 7 and 8, where Lewis would stop Vitali and permanently blinded him.

The following 20 years on ESB would be full of butthurt Klittards crying over how the Ref let the fight continue and blinded Vit, and that he should never referee again.

They would also cry about how Vitali has never properly lost and that either poisoning, corruption or racist referee's were to blame.

 

This was one of Vitali's worst fights-all caution went out the window, he could have broken Lennox down, but he opted to punch it out. He has never been so thrown to caution to the wind in any of his previous fights.
A Vitali UD was in the making and his status as an ATG would have been immediately
recognized. Yes, the TKO 6 still stands, but Vitali had Lennox's no. and could have ruled over Lennox with a more measured and stylistic attack.
He was poorly managed back then.

Reasonable scores.

 

Round 1 - 10-9 Vitali
Round 2 - 10-9 Vitali
Round 3 - 10-9 Lewis (Close round, Vitali was busier but Lewis landed the the harder shots)
Round 4 - 10-10 even
Round 5 - 10-9 Vitali
Round 6 - Lewis (Once again Vitali busier but he was hurt twice during the round and that upper cut from Lewis was HUGE!)

I had it TKO 6 for Lewis

 

I had it 4-2 for Vitali. Although round 3 was close so could have quite easily been even.

Lewis clearly won rounds 5 and 6 for me... can't undertsand how so many are giving round 5 to Vitali.

the last couple of minutes of round 6 Vitali was on ***** street and looked ready to drop. Lewis was holding him up for most of that round.

Lewis had a bad start and took and walked through everything Vitali could muster. Turned the fight around and had Vitali in a bad way by the end of the 6th. Vitali showed his inexperience in big fights that night. He shot his load in the first 4 rounds and Lennox showed his experience by out manning Klit.

Nothing at all dubious about this fight. Klit had a good start... started to get beat up and stopped legitimately... only butthurt Klitards think otherwise

 

Good card. I'd probably switch around the round 4 & 5 scoring, but good card.

The worst, most misleading bit of commentary in the whole thing comes from Jim Lampley near the end of round 6. He says that Lewis can barely stay on his feet (due to exhaustion), while Vitali is actually the one falling all over him and grabbing at his waist. Let's tie a 6'7 250lb Ukranian to Lampley and seem him dance the fandango.

Probably not until we have a fight in the HW like this..
I believe that Lewis-Vitali is the last time we had two HOF HWs going at it like that..
We have not had such a fight in a long time..
