What was Lennox supposed to tell him, "Go into your Willie Pep mode and dance around him and win the round by not throwing a punch, then outbox him on the outside and keep throwing that rapier jab of yours and make him miss with his jab with your lightning fast head movement"?
That pressure **** won't work for Hatton because PBF is to smart for that. Hatton will come in nervous and lose posibly by ko. Remember the two live bodies he's fought (Collazo, Urango) almost ko'ed him and hurt him to the body. He's never fought anyone good other the the two I just mentioned. He's getting his ass kicked Saturdat night.
Really surprises me that Lennox Lewis would make this comment. Just a few years ago people said that about "Iron" Mike Tyson and his chances relative to beating him (Lewis), and Lewis was quick to show the world that what he calls the "Sweet Science" is definitely a better option than being a slugger and in their fight, and he was right. Why he thinks this fight should be any different, I don't know. I won't say he's wrong but he's always said the total opposite so maybe he's just pulling for his homeboy, another UK fighter.
I disagree with Lewis to some extent. KO in 4 rounds? Nah, Floyd will expect Ricky to rush him, this is what he will be planning for. Ricky needs to be clever, use angles, and keep up a constant level of pressure for as long as is needed. As long as he doesn't take his foot off the gas I think he'll have success. I know one thing -- Floyd won't be knocking Ricky out. For starters, his hands are fragile and he would be foolish to risk hurting himself by using power shots. Second, I'm telling you -- Floyd cannot hurt Ricky. It'll be like trying to fight a tree stump. Pointless. Floyd should take a leaf out of Calzaghe's book and unload consistent smaller shots that eventually pile up and cause damage, try and cut Ricky and get the fight stopped. But RIcky needs to change his style, try and surprise Floyd, and as I said, keep his foot on the gas for however long it takes to get a KO. I expect Ricky to KO Floyd somewhere around the 8th or 9th.
He probably thinks it's the only faint chance Hatton has. If Hatton tries anything less crude he's got no chance whatsoever.
Ricky really does have short arms. Check out Sheehans avatar (post #20). Joe C. is not looking that much taller than ricky. Now look @ their upper arms. Joe's starts about 2" inches above Ricky's and hangs about 2" below. Inside fighting really is Ricky's key.
Isn't there about a 6 inch height difference between JC and Ricky? EDIT: it's 4 inches. JC: 5 ft 11.5 in (1.82 m) -- Reach 73 inches RH: 5 ft 7.5 in (1.715 m) -- Reach: 66 inches
Hi FRKO, I don't know. Maybe Ricky's on a milk crate. I was just pointing out that picture, you know, a picture tells a thousand words.
Hatton going "in there like a madman", as LL suggested, is the perfect recipe for being stopped in the later rounds. Mayweather by TKO should Hatton follow Lewis' advice. Controlled and sustained aggression is Hatton's best approach.
Hehe. See edited post for stats. There's about a 4 inch difference in height and a 7 inch reach difference. Yup, Ricky has short arms man.
