I have always felt that he is an all time great, even long before his career ended. While he does not have any extravagant records or personal stats to speak of, he looked very impressive in destroying many of the top rated challengers he faced. Andrew Golata had just gotten through bashing Bowe from pillar to post, and Lennox iced him one round. Razor Ruddock was expected to be Tyson's heir, and Lewis put a stop to it quick. Michael Grant, Shanon Briggs, Henry Akinwande, Tommy Morrison, Vitali Klitschko, and David Tua were all very good contenders and he trumphed over them.... I go back and forth however as to exactly how high he deserves to be rated. As mentioned before by many, he defeated every man he ever faced, but in order to do it, he also had to lose to two fighters who were not exactly world beaters. Of course, I do believe that Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman are often unfairly labeled as journeyman by Lewis's detractors, when in fact they were rated contenders. The Mercer fight was also less than impressive given Ray's standing at the time. Still, while his career may not be perfect, the plusses outweigh the minuses by far. I don't know if he's a top five heavyweight, bet he's definately above ten.. I think anywhere from 6-8 is probably fair...
