lennox lewis: worst broadcaster ever....your thoughts

Foreman would actually be my choice for this thread. Jones was actually quite good.

 

My problem with Lennox's commentating is the same as his fighting - he always leaves you wanting more. Lennox has one of the finest boxing brains out there, as he was one of the best heavyweights to ever step foot in a ring, but he never really delivered in the ring, and he just doesn't deliver as a commentator. Look at his career defining fights - beating a washed up Tyson, got knocked on his fanny by McCall, got pushed to his absolute limit by Mavrovic, beat an old and overmatched Holyfield, got knocked on his fanny again by Rahman, then he gets in the ring with a live contender - Vit, and gets his ass handed to him, only to get off on a cut.

Lennox's boxing career, as quality and decorated as it was, leaves you begging for so much more - this guy had the tools to be the greatest heavyweight ever, but his complaceny and lack of ability to rise to the challenge leaves him as one of the most talented disappointments in the history of the sport. His commentating, despite his undeniable wealth of knowledge has so far, failed to deliver.

 

You beat me to the punch. As long as Kellermanis around, NO ONE can take his spot as the worst of all time. The guy is just a complete ****ing chump.

 

Why?Sure at the beggining he was bad but he has gotten bette and better with a few slips here and there.His commentary at Penalosa vs Lopez was dreadfull but I quite enjoyed him at Williams vs Quintana I and a couple of others.

I agree. In fact, i think he's the most annoying ****er in entire boxing. His comments on the recent Frazier/Thrilla in Manilla documentary were awful, arrogant and annoying.


Lewis is okay. He's not super, but not bad either. Always interesting to hear comments from a former HW champion.

 

Lennox's problem is that he doesn't speak good english and has a strong accent just like most foreigners like Sam Peters, the klits and many others. I will take guys like Tyson, Holyfield, Foreman and even Toney over him as commentators, bec those guys speak good English. I think that is why he has no charisma and was never that famous in the US.

 

lmao, Toney? even Americans have a hard time trying to make out what that guy says sometimes.

 

Toney speaks better English than Lennox.

 

I thought Lennox was so bad that I was hoping Kellerman would say something!

I remember a long time ago Mike Tyson sitting in on a Simon Brown fight and I thought he was actually really good........and a great brain for Boxing and how the fighters were feeling and thinking.

 

Calzaghe and Carl Froch also have the same language issue as Lennox. When they open their mouth, you just don't know what they are talking about.

BUT, to be fair, he's set up to say it, no? He's always asked a rather obvious question, to which he says "definately" or "absolutey". :deal

I guess he could throw in the occasional "sure" or "correct", or maybe even "you got it" to mix it up?

**** it, I like him.

 

I think David Haye's poor english will also hurt his popularity.
