“Outspeed and outboxes” Ah - buddy Bonavena gave Ali all he could handle in the 70s If Lewis is fighting for the title against Ali… well look at the Ron Lyle bout, Frazier is totally defanged against Lewis he’d legit just be able to lean on him and that’s all there is to it lol he couldn’t fight LL inside because he wouldn’t be allowed to. George Foreman beating Lewis? Really? Based on… Rahman? If you use that version of LL I’d raise you the version of GF who almost got destroyed by Ron Lyle lol.
Ali best Bonavena comfortably, Bonavena was awful to watch but was awkward and dangerous For Lewis to lean on Frazier he has to consistently get close enough to a constant moving target in order to do so, Lewis was a hard puncher but he doesn’t punch like Foreman. I will raise you the fact Foreman at least won that fight, and Lewis was ko’d by Rahman and McCall, who punched not as hard as Lyle did.
Ali did not look good, he was hit a lot that’s silly to dismiss lol. MA was being outboxed by Lyle and Norton neither are fit to carry LL’s spit bucket H2H… MA was beat up with a meat and potato’s Louis technique “jab with him” lol you think Steward can’t cook up something like that? Yeah Foreman won the hardest fight of his life against a guy whose best win was… Shavers? Foreman was almost KO’d fresh as a daisy by the first right hand RL threw, Lennox slumps him easily and absolutely man handles that guy worse then Ali ever did. Frazier needs to get in to work, when he gets in Lennox will lean in on him then he’ll be back on the end of LL’s arsenal and it won’t last long, Lennox is precise not the sloppy puncher GF was… right uppercut city.
Norton is a high level, especially when he was on song, as he always was against Ali/Holmes type boxers due to his style. Foreman still won…Lennox was not often hurt, but when he was he was poleaxed. Foreman only needs one good punch even if he’s losing to stomp Lennox in to the canvas. McCall and Rahman are unremarkable punchers, they sent Lennox to the nether zone. Lennox can knock down Joe but if he doesn’t finish him he will be gassed while Joe is just getting started.
Lennox will be very wary of Foreman’s power and will know he has a much lesser chance of Koing Foreman than Foreman does him…a post Ali Foreman may be outboxed by Lewis, but if anyone’s getting knocked out it’s Lewis
Then you are assuming Lewis gets a new personality transplant and goes a whole decade taking every single opponent dead serious, is constantly in shape and focused, etc, when this isn't what happened in reality. Lewis had to go through lots of bumps in the road to develop into the fighter he became, including a new trainer and 2-3 refinements of his style. I don't think he goes 10 years undefeated in such a deep era.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. Nobody would have cleared the 70s. There wee just too many dangerous fighters around.
He certainly could run the table. He provided a better combination of talent and skill than any of them at that phase. But he would probably lose focus against a Norton or Lyle level opponent and get cold cocked, then beat them in the rematch. The 90's just had superior athletes. I know it's hard for some to accept.
No, what I mean was that he definitely would take the likes of Ali, Foreman etc seriously But I'm not saying his record would be perfect. Not in the 70 s especially.
I agree. Lewis was no fool and would realize those guys meant business. But yeah, there's no way he lasts a whole decade with no loss. At some point he slips up or simply drops a decision/gets caught with something big. He wouldn't be able to fight 1-2x every year or so or cherry pick, he'd need to fight at the hectic pace of the 70's and there'd only be one belt.
Of all the guys to give him a “Rahman” moment it’d be probably a lesser fighter you’re right, he’d go out and Ruddock Foreman and Frazier - Ali is obviously serious business, LL would hurt him doe, Lennox had his issues with a good jab but so did Ali lol. Holmes is easily the hardest fight IMO.
Lewis can hang w anyone. A prime Frazier , Foreman, Ali give him fits. He’s not getting out with a zero,
