Lennox Lewis would always have brutalized Tyson.

No matter what versions of them fought, Lewis would have bullied Tyson around the ring. I hope the classic forum is clever enough to understand that fact.

Let's look at why Lewis would always beat "iron mike"....

Height - Lewis has a 7" height adv, giving him massive leverage on punches, also it mean Tyson has hard time reaching Lewis and when he does he loses a lot of his overated power punching upwards.

Reach - Lewis has a 13" reach adv, means he can keep Tyson at a long distance with his jab, holding him away by pawing him in the face and pounding him with bombs from safe distance.

Weight - Lewis has a 30lbs weight adv, this extra 30lbs of muscle means Lewis punches a hell of a lot harder and is hugely stronger to muscle the little man about in clinches, leaning, holding-hitting and leaning.

Timing - Lewis has perfect timing which negates Tysons adv's in speed and means that Tyson's predictable head movement can be timed to keep him from getting close.

Chin - Lewis has an iron chin as he was only TKO'd in 2 by big puncher McCall (he could have continued but ref wouldnt let him) and KO'd by huge banger Rahman in 5. Tyson was KO'd in 10 by feather fisted Douglas, out on his feet in 11 and dropped by a body shot in 6 by Holyfield, knocked OUT COLD in 8 by Lewis (but Lewis was carrying him to punish him, Lennox could have KO'd him in 3 if he wanted), KO'd in 4 by Williams and TKO'd in 6 by McBride.

Stamina - Lewis has great 12 round stamina, while Tyson gets tired if he fails to stop people in 5 rounds.

Before any Tyson-nuthugger complain about me using Lewis-Tyson pics to illustraight my point, remember that when they did fight in 2002, Tyson was 35 and Lewis was 36 - means Lewis was further from prime which ends at 32. ANd Tyson was in wayy better shape the his fannyboys make out, in fact he prepard very well for Lewis, coming in at a strong, solid thick-set 234lbs so that Lewis would not have as huge advs in power and strength and so that he could take more punches as more weight means more toughness and chin too...at 218lbs he would have been too light.

In fact he was in better shape than he was for Bruno in 1996 at 220lbs, and that was a top 3 performance for Tyson.

So prime vs prime who wins?? Lewis or Tyson?

Another point to help you decide -
When Tyson lunges in to attempt to reach the taller Lewis, he leaves himself open for Lewis to time him with a huge bomb of a counter.

    I dont know.
I'm in two minds about this match-up.

Both of them are terribly overrated around here.
I actually like watching prime Tyson's style, and Lewis just fights ugly. But I'd probably say Lewis wins it. I was never completely sold on Tyson's boxing ability, and his defense has become overrated, and a good tall fighter could keep him a step off.
Tyson was great because he could impose his will, but I dont think that would work with Lewis.

Tysons prime was between 1986-89 at most. How can you say a tyson at 230pounds was nearer to his prime.

Lewis got KO'D with one bomb against rahman

tyson against douglas was tyson out of shape and douglas basically had to batter his skull into the floor before getting him on the canvas.

reach would make any difference prime tyson would be able to get inside and fire off hooks and uppercuts.

Prime tyson was incredibl quick and would have got underneath lewis's arms and landed them on his jaw.

I could go on all day but tyson would have killed lewis.

Eh, I hate when people say blahblah had 13 inch reach advantage.....they do have two arms. Its not like Lennox's arms are 84 inches long each. He has a considerably reach advantage anyway you cut it but its not over a foot.

I stopped reading when you said Lewis has an iron chin. Your bias is clouding your judgement.

Even worse, this guy rates old Foreman ahead of Liston,Tyson and Frazier in h2h rankings. I suppose Tommy Morrison does too? :rofl

The first round of their fight pretty much dismisses the idea that he simply "brutalizes" Tyson. Not just because it was competitive, but the amount of respect Lennox showed him was indicative of just how lethal Lewis knew that Tyson could be. Even a heavily washed up, shot version of Tyson.

I rate these two about the same, maybe Lewis a tad higher, but I favor Tyson in this matchup. His attacks would be too fast, imo.

I must admit, the fact that Lewis was KO'd or TKO'd by single punches in his two career defeats does make me doubt my picking him.

    :thumbsup:thumbsup v.good post.
Tyson has mega-overated boxing ability and uber-overated head movement defence, he never beat a good tall boxer [Douglas and Lewis] becuase they could keep him off-balance at long range with there long, timed, acurate jabs which follow his head movement. If Tyson couldn't indimindate an opponent and they stood up to him with their strong-wills, then Tyson never could win. Lewis has the will of a lion which won't be bullied by tysons pitbull will.

P.S - Tyson can't win with a big bomb like Rahman did, becuase he lacks the power of Rahman to hurt Lewis's iron jaw. Rahman has 20lbs muscle-mass adv compared to prime tyson and so he hits a lot harder. Think of Tysons power like a .357 magnum bullet and Rahman's like a bigger, heavier .44 magnum. The .357 bounces off the granite chin of Lewis, but if the .44 gets a perfect shot in can do damage to any chin. Lewis has power like a .50 S&W Magnum bullet in comparison and could knock anybody cold [apart from McCall and Tua] with one punch.

Both in their primes were very good fighters and im split between the two. My best way of figuring it out is to ask myself hypothetically if they both began boxing at the same time, who would win at certain parts of their career? Therefore years 1-4 tyson wins.
The other dozen or so years? Lewis wins
