The "can't prove a negative" meme is actually really misguided.

Science is done almost entirely on proving negatives, you don't prove your idea, you try and disprove it.

If lots of experiments fail to disprove it then it's more and more likely to be true, but you can basically never prove it, only show things are consistant with what you'd predict from it.

The real issue is that it is trivial to create unfalsifiable hypotheses that can't be tested in that way. People claiming that the inability to disprove is evidence for it. But in reality it's not the inability to disprove it that is evidence but t's predictions being true.

The issue is shifting the burden of proof and challenging someone to disprove something, that by it's nature is unfalsifiable, but in general you can prove a negative, and it is generally far doable than proving positives (which basically has to be pure logic or maths except in the case of law where it just refers to a big weight of evidence).
