Prime Lewis would give any heavy weight fits. I still would favor Ali due to his speed and a better chin. Prime Ali before he was stripped of his title over the draft crap was damn good.

Lewis was too “measured” and Ali too busy for a Lewis victory. There is no chance Lewis stops prime Ali. There is also no chance he outpoints prime Ali.

Ali wins via decision over 15 rounds 10-5 in rounds. Lewis a mess of facial damage while Ali is unmarked.

Personally I believe Ali stops Lewis. Here's why. Quickness and underrated power. Ali's jab and cross possibly/ probably the quickest in heavyweight history, also Ali could use the lead right hand and be very effective.... Ali and his movement would keep Lewis from getting force on his right hand. Lewis had average foot speed at best, and having to chase a moving fighter like Ali would keep him from getting max leverage on his power punches...
Lewis pawed with his jab, and dropped it low after he used it, plus his head movement was typical on the same level the entirety of his fights. A truly big advantage with a fighter as quick with his counters as Ali was especially his ability to follow his opponents dropped jab with a quick straight right counter. Lewis would be to slow with his punches and his feet to truly challenge a fighter Ali's ability and style....

Ali would make Lewis hesitant about using his jab meanwhile Ali would be able to land his at will . Speed kills and sooner than later Ali would be able to counter Lewis jab or a right hand miss with a lead right , or a straight right hand after a jab stun Lewis and finish Lewis within 10 rds. Just a real bad style match up for Lewis. Lewis would have a much better chance with most ATG heavyweights including J Louis than his chances of defeating a prime/ close to prime Ali. ..

Except you said "whenever his resume is discussed the names that are always brought up are Tyson and Holyfield".
That is worth exactly zero. Either study Lewis resume yourself or find fans that actually have some insight into his career.
I'm not gonna base what a casual more or less ignorant sports fan spews when judging a great heavyweight. I'll leave that to you.

As I have mentioned in the previous posts, do not confuse 1970's Ali, with prime Muhammad Ali of 1967. On Feb 6 1967, Ali out boxed tall Ernie Terrell, over 15 rounds to win a very lopsided unanimous decision, to win back the WBA Heavyweight Title taken from him by giving Sonny Liston a rematch, in 1965. Lennox Lewis, great boxer, would be swinging at the wind,as Ali dances non stop for 15 rounds without missing a step, no holding or Rope A Dope here, as that invention was 7 years in the future, against George Foreman in 1974. Lewis in his prime title reign was stopped, by Hasim Rahman, on April 22 2001, in round 5, not even near the caliber of Muhammad Ali, not even in his dreams.Sure, he won those rematches, but his title reigns were interrupted. In prime Ali's first reign from 1964-1967, he never lost or hit the canvas. The first Henry Cooper fight was on June 18 1963, when he was decked by Cooper, in round 4, Ali arose and won by TKO 5. In the rematch on May 21 1966, he ripped up Cooper for a very bloody TKO 6. Muhammad has better recuperative skills, tougher jaw. Also it should be pointed out that Lennox was stopped by Oliver McCall also on Sept 23 1994, in round 2, losing his WBC World Heavyweight Title. Lewis may have defeated the rope A Dope version of Ali, but the 1967 edition was way too fast, and also to mention, he would be living in Lewis head rent free, Lennox is not accustomed to such tactics from any fighter. Size does not mean a thing if you cannot catch your opponent to hit him. Just look at the Terrell fight. Ernie had a tougher jaw than Lennox. Ali by unanimous 15 round verdict.

    So What!

Lewis is a Different Division... a S-HW's, the Land of the Giants.

now most of them are second and third rate, however the Lewis' winning is NOTHING Special - they ARE Bigger Animals and a Different Division...

now the Great HW's, you know the Smaller Men, the Greatest Among WOULD Pull Off the odd Upset, Sure.

But Again they ARE a Different Division!!!

With a glass jaw, size does not make a difference, I know, everybody like their own era.The Bigger They Are,The Harder They Fall. Just makes more noise when they fall over from exhaustion. It is the skills that you have, to lose to Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall. Ali beat all his challengers in his prime, 1964-1967. No visits to the canvas here for Ali in his prime. The bigger, the flabby, for the modern day heavyweights.

Unbelievable. There have been huge men in boxing forever. Lewis size will NOT be an advantage in the ring vs Ali. Speed kills and there is no defense for it.

Ali was extremely strong. Norton said hitting him was like hitting a brick wall. Ali had no trouble manhandling Lyle on the inside and he could hold his own with Foreman. Lewis optically looked stronger but Ali was stronger.

When Ali fought Liston, Williams and Patterson, he weighed more than Deontay Wilder did when he fought Fury.

You can mention Wilders height and reach but either we’re measuring by weight or we’re not. Can’t have it both ways.

Where did you see me say that I personally judged Lewis career on what those people say about the importance of Lewis beating Tyson to his career? Whether you think that Lewis beating Tyson was meaningless or not to his legacy there is no doubt that it’s is one of the most high profiled fights of his career and one of the ones that is most talked about. Even Lewis is alway happy to talked about that particular fight and how satisfying it was for him. By pointing that out about what some fans are saying doesn’t mean that you can imply that I know nothing about Lewis career and I sure as hell don’t need you to tell me what or who’s career to study.

Muhammad Ali was 210 lbs for Sonny Liston, Feb 25 1964, for Cleveland Big Cat Williams, 212 lbs, on November 14 1966,and Floyd Patterson,210 lbs, on November 22 1965. The post exile Ali weighed into the 220's, the above listed weights are for the prime Ali, not the older version.
