I was watching Lewis, about 3 hours ago, the fights between Grant and Klitschko and cant help but notice that at times he smothered his own work. When he could keep a fighter at bay with his jab and find the range on his right hand then the power was earth shattering. It was like his arms were too long at times, but once he found his range that right hand power is amazing, i just thought it seemed very untidy at times... what are your thoughts?

Any regrettable blip he had was corrected.

Gold medal with a near perfect professional record.

A Great boxer in every sense.

His style was better to watch when he was younger. His right hand is one of the most devastating in boxing history.

one of the all time best heavies but he reached his peak relatively late which is a testimony to how much he learned along the way. i think the mercer fight is a good example of some of the flaws he had that were mentinoed in the first post: smothered his own work, did not control the distance and got dragged into a dogfight. compare that lewis with his performance in the morrison fight (which is one of my favourites of his), the briggs fight and his cameo against golota. he improved a lot of these issues and became all around brilliant

He has outstanding record in a very strong HW era. He retired a champ. Beaten every fighter he faced. He quit the sport with all his faculties in tact, to go with enough money for retirement.

    Guy is still awesome.

I think the fight against Ruddock shows that when he was younger his style was amazing, then the way Bowe refused to fight him afterwards was shameless. If they would have fought it would have been fireworks no doubt....

An overall very very complete HW boxer. Could box from inside, from a distance. Good footwork. He could fight anything and any style.

Oh another thing that stands out: Compared to many of the mental underachievers of his era, Lewis always seemed extremely educated and intelligent. It also seems he managed to keep his money together and didn't go broke/waste his earnings like Tyson/Holyfield/Bowe etc. etc.

to be honest i think that he didnt let people influence him like Tyson and Bowe etc etc he knew his own mind and what he wanted, after Tyson lost Cus D'Amato his mentor, he seemed to lose his way and fall into the wrong crowd, thats how i see it anyways....
