What amazes me most with Lennox, and what most people seem to forget about him was how he sought to fight the best HW the sport has to offer during his time. He fought Ruddock, Mercer, Mccall, Golota, Grant, Tua when these guys were thought to be the most dangerous HW out there. Maybe now it looks like just a bunch of fringe fighters but at that time Lennox fought them, they have shown to be real threat to him.
:good people always remember him being knocked out but he always avenged his losses, more emphatically than in the way he lost.
One of the greatest heavyweights of all time, beat every fighter he ever faced, retired on top and the heavyweight division hasn't been anything like the same since he retired. Not much more you can say really.
Indeed. I clearly remember people thought Mccall and Rahman had Lewis' number. I personally even believed it for some extent, especially Rahman who has taunting Lewis in just about every chance he gets. Lewis didn't allow to be psyched up, he came back and conquered them in dramatic ways to redeem himself.
Could you guys chalk out the McCall rematch? That particular bout was neither to his credit nor discredit.
I've recently sat throught the Lewis career set and it's easy to forget that he was a slim, lightning fast KO artist in his early years. The power and speed was incredible. Brilliant fighter.
A true legend. So, contemplate this: In a recent (3 years ago) survey the British public were asked by The Sun newspaper who the greatest British heavyweight boxer of all time was. The results were: 1. Frank Bruno (70%+) 2. Henry Cooper 3. Lennox Lewis The Sun. Never fails to humiliate the nation.
A lot of Brits don't consider Lewis to be British. Hence his **** poor performance in the vote. Most intelligent analysts consider him the best British boxer of all time, or at the very least within the top 3, which is an absolute must. It's a shame Britain loves it's honourable losers, or flawed geniuses...... Lennox is one of a very elite kind in British sport alongside Martin Johnson and a few others.
HAHA what? man i love bruno and cooper but come on. they were nowhere NEAR lewis' league. i know he's not that popular over there (in canada he's still pretty big just cause he's the only heavyweight we have other than chuvalo and sam langford) but that's just ridiculous
