Oh and criticism of Harley and Zelenoff doesn't fit into the above post, because they're not real professionals, they're an embarrassment.
The first rule of Internet boxing forums is we should all assume posters are ATG's, and not infact fat, zit ridden, pre-pubescent teens that can't even spell 'box' nevermind lace a glove
I agree in theory, Jeff, that Gomez has the style to expose Khan bigtime. What bothers me, though, is the size difference. Mike is a super-feather, whereas Khan is a welter who somehow makes lightweight. But I'm living in hope!:good
The big thing in this fight for me is that Warren manages both fighters and should have the inside line on form/ condition etc and he hasn't made this fight to see Khan lose....
Is the inside line really neccessary for this fight? Warren had Arthur and Gomez when they fought and he certainly didn't want Gomez to win that one. But this is a different Gomez 5 years down the line... This is a fighter who has nothing left in a fight he shouldn't be in.
I agree, Kahn is the fresher, larger man with more skills, I think Khan will soften him up ofr a couple of rounds and KO Gomez before the 5th.
there has been rumours for a while, i thought it was true. Anyway i think if it was true we the boxing fans would know by now.
I wasn't a fan but you can't overlook Lennox Lewis when bringing up "great heavyweights". While he may have fought in an era that lacked quality heavyweight contenders, he dominated and held the title for an extended period. As champion he always gave the appearance that he was a worthy King, his two losses avenged with authority. He used his long reach to advantage, controlling fights with his jab and finishing them with a straight right. Looking back on his record it's quite impressive, his victims included Vitali Klitschko, Mike Tyson, David Tua, Shannon Briggs, Evanda Holyfield and Fruity Golota. After being KO'd by Rahman in 5 he returned the favour in 4. While no objective fight fan could put him alongside Ali or Louis, he easily holds his place in an all time top 10.
Lennox was an entirely better fighter when he matured, for a spell he was an awesome specimen, and could have beaten any heavy in history. Not saying he was the best ever, but he could on any given night have beaten any fighter that ever existed. His sheer size, athleticism, power and skill combined into a frightening prospect. When he gained his full self-confidence in his late 20's he was special.
I happen to think this is a bit of a misnomer. Lewis fought & dominated an era comparable to any other in terms of competition. I agree with all of that. At his best, head to head, I favour him over anyone.
