Lewis has one of the deepest records in all heavyweight history, I'd rate him as one of the 5 best heavies ever. I'd put most of the emphasis on the caliber of opponent faced but the way you beat them does play a factor. I'd rate Lewis's best wins like this( a lot of these guys could move up or down several slots) 1 Vitali- Vitali probably rates as one of the 20-30 best heavies himself. Lewis was past his prime and inactive for over a year while Vitali was at/near his peak. Lewis didn't win in the manner he probably wanted but there is absolutly nothing controversial about this win, its a clear win for Lewis and probably his best. 2 Holyfield 1- Officialy it was a draw(Lewis won 9-10 rounds) and Holyfield wasn't at his peak(it would be Lewis best win if he were) but this is a very good win. Holy is a great heavy and even past his best he still had a lot left and was coming off some of his best wins in the past couple years-Tyson 2x and Moorer and after this would still have enough left to beat solid contenders like Ruiz and Rahman. 3 Ruddock- Very highly rated at the time and had a number of ko wins over decent-solid guys-Page, Dokes, Bonecrusher, etc and was able to go the distance with a still very dangerous Tyson a year prior while Lewis simply ran him over. 4 Tua- No ko but still a dominant showing against another high rated guy. Tua has a long list of ko wins over good fighters-Moorer, Rahman(controverial), Maskaev, Ruiz, Oquendo, Izon, etc. Tua came in a little heavy but it probably doesn't matter. If Tua would have done more in the mid 2000's this would be an even more credible win but his career basically ended when Tua was only 31 and never got to add to his own resume. 5 Holyfield 2- Lewis got the win but being the fight was closer and Holyfield was even older than it loses some of the luster the first one has. Still a good win for Lewis. 6 Golota- I know he doesn't have many top wins and has been ko'ed early after this but this version of Golota was a dangerous heavyweight. He just put a couple beatings on Bowe and then Lewis ko's him in one was impressive. 7 Rahman- I know he gets slammed as a one-hit wonder but thats not true, though he was inconsistent at the top level. Besides Lewis he beat Sanders, Barrett, Sullivan, Meehan, and I think he deserved wins in the Tua rematch and the first Toney fight. Lewis shouldn't have lost the first fight but he still ko'ed a solid heavyweight who just ko'ed him. 8 Mercer- Like Rahman he could be incosistent and wasn't on a great streak coming in but just watch the fight and you can tell that this Mercer was a good heavyweight. 9 Bruno- I think this gets overlooked a bit but Bruno was good heavy with some nice wins. Lewis came from behind to win can be seen as good and bad, still Bruno was a good heavy that Lewis ko'ed. 10 Grant- He may have been overhyped at the time but I think, due to that some, the win gets undervalued. Grant was a big, undefeated, heavy with some tools. He was coming in on a nice run, even though the Golota win isn't the most satisfying way to win a fight. Another early ko by Lewis adds value to this win. You can clearly make a case for guys like Morrison, Briggs, McCall, Tucker, being in the top 10 and thats fine. It just shows the huge depth of Lewis's resume.
I personally enjoyed watching the Ruddock fight, I thought that was a peak Lewis. His fight against Golota was similar. The destroyed Grant, although he probably should have been DQ'd with that tactic of having his hand over Grant' head while delivering an uppercut. The Briggs fight was also very entertaining and trench warfare with Mercer and Vitali were both very good wins. For boxing rather than going to war, his wins over Holyfield and Tua were impressive.
Vitali is the best name in Lewis' resume. However, 'cause of the conditions surrounding the win, the UD12 over Holyfield or over Tua could be better.
How many ATG's did Vitali beat?:think Whichever answer annoys gutless Klitscko fangirls the most,I vote for.:good
Vitali Klitschko vs Lennox Lewis THE FACTS Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice. Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis barely survived the 2nd round and was out on his feet, he was badly hurt, holding on for dear life, wobbling everywhere and staggering around the ring like a drunk. Lewis was badly hurt out on his feet several times in the fight and was getting outslugged, outworked, outmuscled, outclassed, outlanded and outboxed by Vitali. punches landed Vitali 156 Lewis 102 Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was clearly the fresher of the two, he would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued. After the fight, Vitali intimidated the **** out of Lewis and made him look like a *****. The whole crowd cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis. Lewis promised Vitali a rematch. Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The gutless coward Lewis retired shortly after that fight. Lewis turned down 40 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali. Vitali dominated Lewis and scared his ***** ass into retirement. This content is protected George Foreman: "Vitali was winning the fight. Lewis got lucky. There has to be a rematch!" Jim Lampley: "A lucky escape for Lewis who was clearly losing the fight" Even Emanuel Steward was upset and pissed off at Lewis for blatantly ducking a Vitali rematch. Lewis is scared to death of Vitali.
Vitali got robbed. The corrupt doctor and ref were on Lennox's payroll. It should've been a TD win for Vitali. Official Scorecards: Pat Russell: Vitali 58-56 James Jen-Kin: Vitali 58-56 Tom Kaczmarek: Vitali 58-56 Other Scorecards: HBO: Vitali 58-56 Sky Sports: Vitali 58-56 Lennox's mom: Vitali 58-56 Vitali wasn't even in his prime yet. Lewis was 37 when he got his ass whooped by Vitali. Vitali is 40 and is still dominant HW champ. Lewis was coming off the win over Tyson. In the Lewis-Tyson post fight interview Lewis stated "I'm like fine wine, I get better with age" In an interview right before the Vitali fight, Lewis said "I'm at the peak of my powers, I will keep fighting for many more years" Lewis will be remembered as a gutless coward who got his ass whooped by Vitali, blatantly ducked a rematch and retired with his tail between his legs.
Name one heavyweight that has a win like that on their resume. I'm sure you'll struggle to find one apart from Frazier over Ali, although it's questionable to say Ali dominated the decision with the few loses he suffered coming a few years after the other before he was shot to ****
