Mason was a pretty good fighter, a nice test for a young Lewis.

My old co-worker was from the same town as Gary.

By Lennox' own account Zeljko Mavrovic was his toughest opponent

Yeah, but fighters tend to say strange things to this question, especially when they want to downplay a loss (or controversial win).

James Toney says the best fighter he fought was Mike McCallum, but Roy is the one who shut him out.

Floyd Mayweather says his toughest fight was Emmanuel Burton/Augustus, but how many rounds did Emmanuel win? More than a few people felt Castillo won or drew with Floyd.

Mavrovic, however, was indeed a very tough guy. Lewis beat him up bad and couldn't stop, or drop him.

I actually watched this fight in full the other day. What a good chin Mercer had, Lewis took some solid shots in that fight as well. The Americans often criticised Lewis for his "safety first" approach but this was a total brawl at times. Good to watch.

Both Morrison and Lewis landed the Tyson-esque right hook to the body, right uppercut to the head on Mercer on a few occassions. Mercer's chin was sick.

Amazing that Holyfield was able to drop Mercer from a left hook. I guess it just shows you about timing and blind punches.
