I am not singling out any individual posters by starting this thread. I am simply interested in honest opinions ...

How would the Lennox Lewis that fought Vitali Klitschko in his final bout have done against the Louis, Walcott, Charles and Moore that Marciano fought ?

I think there are some interesting match ups here ...

I think he still triumphs over all of them honestly. In fact, those guys weren't really at a better point in their careers either when Rocky fought them, and with the way that the much larger, stronger Lewis battled his way through a prime Vitali, I think he'd find a way to beet faded versions of those guys as well.

Walcott has a very, very good chance.

Lewis dispatches the others pretty brutally IMO, though Moore would make him look foolish for a while.

    True,

On the night that Walcott faced Marciano, he was in very good shape, extremely focussed and still had a fair amount of mobility. In fact, had I not known better, I never would have guessed that he was pushing 38 years old. I often wonder if Joe might have won more of his earlier fights had he shown up in that very form.

Lewis kicks all their asses' hard at that point.... Lewis is simply too huge and strong back in 2003 at age 37.....

Remember, V.K. was in great shape and also huge with a granite jaw and a heavy wallop in his fists..........

Lewis only beat Klitschko cuz of the cuts...... V. Klit never rocked or truly rolled against the often wobbly and reeling Lewis did in Los Angeles.....

Lewis and V. Klit would "moider" all them great named opponents who also were aging / aged in the 1950s when Marciano was kickin' ass......

I agree that Walcott would have the best chance of the four.

I see him bagging some of the early rounds and forcing Lewis to go into seek and destroy mode to save the fight.

The relevant question is how far Lewis had really slipped. The fight didnt last long enough for me to form a definite opinion on this. He looked slow and uncoordinated in the early rounds but got into a bit of a groove for the last two and started throwing some rather nice feints.

The lennox who fought vitali was the worst version of lennox to ever step into the ring. He looked overweight, out of shape, and slow. He still got the job done, because he was a great fighter, but I think he would be vulnerable to being beaten by many greats that night. I think the biggest difference between Marciano's foursome and lennox, is charles moore walcott louis were all in terrific shape when they fought rocky, while lewis was not against vitali. Let us not forget when lennox is not in the best of shape, he is capable of losing to the likes of Oliver McCall, and Hasim Rahman.

vs Joe Louis- I think Louis does very well early. Louis wasn't giving up so much of a size advantage(6'2 214lb), and was a good technician himself. Louis had a terrific jab at 37, and lennox had trouble with jabbers throughout his career. I think louis takes an early lead on the cards outjabbing lewis and boxing carefully and wisely. I think Lewis eventually wears joe down and catches up with him around the 9th round and finishes him off. Louis up on all 3 cards. I think lennox had a little bit more left at this stage(reflex wise), despite probably being in worst shape physically than Louis was.
    Lewis TKO 9 Louis

Walcott- I pick Walcott here. Walcott would outbox, counterpunch, land stinging hooks on lewis all night. Walcott had the stamina to keep up the pace all night and the mobility to get out of harm's way. He also has a decent chance of a stoppage in this one with his punching power. He would stay aggressive vs lewis, but all choose his spots wisely keeping a smart game plan. Lewis condition just gives out on him in the later rounds, and he is unable to find the punch to put walcott away.
    Walcott 15 unanimous

Charles- The Charles who fought on June 1954 was in great shape. Lewis was not. However, Charles is at bad stylistic matchup here. Lewis could still jab, he could still hit hard, and he had an enormous size advantage. I don't think charles had the big punch to put lennox in place, and despite charles tricky counterpunching ability, he will not be able to outbox a much taller skilled foe on ability alone. Charles had nice movement still, but his legs had aged a bit, and he wouldn't be able to sustain the movement all fight long, and eventually by the latter rounds would become flatfooted and be a standing target for Lewis to hit. I see charles winning some early rounds, with lennox turning the tides late. Charles stays on his feet with a big heart, and warrior mentallity. But he takes some heavy blows late. One judge has the fight even becaue of charles early round success and his sharp right hand counters getting in all night. But it's clear who wins the fight. Lennox jab dictates the pace in this fight.

    Lennox 15 majority

vs Archie Moore- Archie was in good shape against Marciano, Lennox was not. Sure Archie got tired against Marciano, but that is because the rock put up a pace only a few fighers in history could match. Lennox at a soft 257lb is not one of them. I think Archie is at a great stylistic advantage here. Archie was at his best against the big men. Against good big men too. He really knew how to outsmart them, he knew how to get inside, he knew how to pick his spots, and he had the tools to beat them. He had the long arms, he had the knockout punch, and he had a wonderful left jab. I think Archie, as smart as he was, realizes lennox is not in the best of shape, and pushes lennox to put up a high workrate. He will utilize angles on the big men, slowly methodically work his way inside, and really snap that jab in lennox's face. Lennox could still hit though, and hard too. Lennox drops archie twice in round 6 once with a big right hand. Archie barely survives the round. In the late rounds, Archie turns on the heat, starts really tagging lewis with leather. Lennox himself continues to get in some good licks on the inside, but it's archie who is controlling the ring, landing the sharper cleaner punches, and frustrating lennox with his terrific left jab. One straight right hand by archie in round 14 buckles lennox's knees. both finish the fight on their feet. Archie wins a very close split decision in a big upset. Some ringsiders believe lennox won, as he landed the heavier blows and scored 2 kd's.

    Moore W 15 Split

    2003 Lennox goes 2-2

    Prime Lennox Lewis goes 4-0

i don't think Moore or Walcott were more faded than lennox was. Not a chance. I also think all 4 of them stepped into the ring with Marciano in very good shape(weight wise) while lennox did not step into the ring in shape vs Vitali. Lennox still could beat all of these men because of his size, power, and heart..but I wouldn't bet on it. I am a huge advocate of great fighters who step into the ring in good shape. It's means all the difference in the world physically and mentally.

Faded may have been an overstated word, but I don't think those guys were prime either. Regardless of how poor Lewis looked, he still waged war with a very formidable opponent who WAS at his best. I still think that Lewis would use his physical advantage, ring savy and all the tricks in his arsenal to pull off wins over those guys.

Very Likely. I made my predictions above and I had Lewis coming out 2-2. But i can see lewis going 3-1 and possibly 4-0(although I do strongly favor Jersey Joe). But 3-1 sounds very likely.

Who knows. Anything can happen. Lewis might have won them all, and then again he might have ended up the way he did against Rahman.

This is how I see it. All of them were as faded,if not more so,than Lennox was at this stage in their careers.

All of them? your telling me lewis was closer to his best vs Vitali than Walcott was in that first fight vs Marciano? You can't be serious. Lennox was way out of shape against Vitali.
