I stand corrected....:good Thinking it over,Walcott was definitely nearer to his best when he fought against Marciano the first time than Lewis was against Klitschko. Must have been a long day at work when I posted that..!
Moore and Walcott could certainly pull out decisions. Against quality big men they have proven to be tricky and efficient fighting off the front and back foot. Valdez and Hoff certainly aren't all time greats but its not a bad guage. In contrast, Lewis never faced anybody approaching their overall speed, difficult style, and ring IQ. Could they out think one of the smarter heavyweight corners and fighters in recent decades...yes, quite possibly. I would actually favor it. Charles would also be formidable opposition for a fighter who at his absolute best had competitive fights against a much slower boxer/puncher in late 90s Holyfield. On the flipside, Lewis could smother Charles to death with his clinching as the similar sized Valdez was said to have done. I would lean towards a Lennox decision in Holyfield II style. Old Louis still had an excellent jab and moved smartly, possibly creating some Bruno or Vitali like problems before gassing and getting took out.
That sounds about right. Charles had a lot of trouble with Valdes's Jab. Couldn't get away from it. I wonder if this would cause him major problems vs Lennox.
Lewis did not weigh in stripped. He had pants and shoes on. As the picture shows, Lewis was in good shape for a man his age.
What quality big men who are you referring to that are remotely on the playing field of Lennox Lewis ? Lennox Lewis was at his absolute best at 34 against Evander Holyfield ? IN addition, you compare Charles with his average heavyweight chin to Holyfield's all time great one ? Lewis could have decked Charles with a well placed jab. I think the Louis that fought Marciano would not get past two rounds with this same Lewis.
Why do you bother? You've been a source of amusement for a time but I really don't find it funny anymore and have been ignoring you for months.
And you chose to respond this time because ? How about supporting your argument ? Likely because you can't.
I think you are absolutely correct here especially when you say that although the four fighters were old they were in great shape especially Walcott, Lewis was not in shape for the Vitali fight and I think maybe an old Louis may have eked out a win, he was made to look worse than he was by a very hungry and prime Marciano.
Walcott would make Lewis look robotic with his defense and skill. I can see Walcott jabbing and moving around, avoiding Lewis's bombs.
I responded this time out of respect to you as the thread starter. The topic was interesting, you asked for honest opinions, and I gave mine. However, you in turn tried to bait me with your typical tiresome B.S. Example: What quality big men who are you referring to that are remotely on the playing field of Lennox Lewis ? -If you read my post more carefully you'd realize how stupid this question is and why there is no need to respond.
Mongoose, I can assure you I have no motive or interest in baiting you. I questioned you. Is that O.K. ? I simply found you referring to Valdez and Hoff as barometers for measuring a match up with Lewis to be a huge reach. I was just making sure I understood you. If I do, then I can say I feel it is a poor point.
As I said I don't think Valdez and Hoff are a bad guage, both are very big men who worked behind good strong jabs off the backfoot, baiting smaller fighters to be aggressive. I have done said I don't believe the are the class of Lewis but they are certainly quality fighters that show us how Walcott and Moore could approach a Lennox Lewis. On the flipside, we have never seen Lewis against a fast, smart slicksters that would make him work for his offense like they would. This is made clear in my initial post, I will not repeat myself again. If you disagree that is your opinion.
