http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPJMn7izjOM Interesting clip. Lennox with an impromptu boxing lesson for Deontay Wilder in a parking lot. Demonstrates a jab that starts closer to the target and is short and crisp. Deontay seems uncomfortable with the approach. Lennox is probably right, unless your Tommy Hearns or Ali, you're best being short and accurate rather than starting from the hip.
Deontay still moves very clumsy with this little simple movement, I am very surprise that no one has showed him this simple footwork and the correct way to jab. This is the first thing you learn but it just goes to show his style built on his physical and athletic gifts rather the other way around.
he makes an excellent point. this is how wladimir throws his jabs most of the time - it's very quick, snappy and it isn't telegraphed because he ISN'T PULLING HIS HAND WAY BACK
So your a expert now?? LL is a all time great trained by the best trainer ever.I had a debated with a guy in my home town that use to work for Don King. We was talking about Wlad being trained by Steward. He told me if Steward is training him he will be champion. LL is the best and if I were at the top I would want him in my corner.
not sure what you're talking about. he's not talking about footwork, he's talking about the starting position of his left hand.
Wladimir definitely has this sort of short jab. other fighters with effective jabs do pull it back further though.
Dont try to reason with them. There just scared he is a threat to there hero WLad and Pulev. It scares the hell out of them Lewis is working with him . They talk **** but they would bust a nut is Lewis trained one of there white heros.
Educational for young Wilder. I am pretty high on him. He gets a lot of slack but he is young and talented. He has size and power. The best thing he can do is work with guys like Lennox and Wlad because that is exactly the style he needs to employ.
U unmitigated ******* !!! I was not talking about LL u fool !! LL is just teaching Deontay the basic of a jab which Deontay should already know. Deontay is this far into his career and he does knot seem to know how to throw a jab while keeping his balance! If you where not so ****ing stupid you would see Deontay technique for throw a jab is really crude, which is why LL is giving him tips. LL at his age and many years away from the ring, Has a jabs that is a lot smother and quicker then Deontay's who is active contender.
If you don't have foot work you don't have a jab. Deontay throw his jab off balance and has issue getting back in balance once throws a jab. Look at the difference of how LL use his feet to step into his jab and utilize his reach vs Deontay who movement is robotic, stiff and somewhat clumsy.
No disrespect at all but Lennox Lewis isn't that good of a teacher haha. But every fighter has different jabs. I feel like depending on the fighter this could work very well. Fighters like Wladmir can use this short crisp jab with great results. But I'm not sure if this suits Deontay Wilder as much.
This is what pro's do when they see a guy with potential. Lennox says that Wilder should shorten the distance with his jab by holding it out a lil. He isn't saying that he should box like that style wise, but when you feel that you can land...shorten the target. When you feel that you can land the jab at will, close in on the target by shortening the distance. When you face an aggressive fighter, then you snap the jab and bring it all the way back. Simple.
