just been watching a re run of this fight. It'll always be debatable, but there is no doubt in my mind that lewis would have gone on and won this fight comfortably even by ref stoppage in the later rounds. Take a look if you can at round 3 for example, he was hitting him at will, and the uppercut in round five almost took his Ukrainian head off. Yes he was stunned in the first two rounds as Klit caught him with some big shots, but Vitali had never been in with that calibre of opponent, and in my mind he wouldnt have lasted the 12 rounds with him, even with Lennox in such bad conditioning than normal................ bring on the f**king debate! Been done to death. But you only have to look at the 6th round to see who'd wrangled control of the fight. I can't really see why the debate's so popular. Lewis was at his absolute worst and still beat the prime Vitali.
i'm a big lewis fan and it was 50-50 for me (if vitali hadn't had the cut to be stopped with). lewis slumped on that stool at the end of the 6th.
I agree, thought Lewis was beginning to take over. Both seemed to be tiring horribly, but Lewis was deffo in the ascendancy and was starting to really time his right hand. I think had it continued Lewis would have got the stoppage within the next few rounds. If he hadn't though, he could well have gassed even more and been beaten. It still could have gone either way, but to me Lewis was definitely the one beginning to control the fight
Lewis would knock him out no doubt Lewis is The real last Heavyweight champion !!! Illegal Punch tzzzzz what a joke. in the last two rounds lewis has dominated Vitali
Vitali's eye was so badly damaged that it was either that stoppage or he wasn't going to have an eye at the end of the fight.
