Such a shame...when he burst on the scene a few years ago he was looking so exciting, an all-action guy. I expected to see him in great fights.
They prob want to see how he carries the weight at 126, before 'really' going to featherweight. Safety first....the hallmark of LSCS career, sadly.
The good news: Santa Cruz vs. Settoul is apparently off. The bad news: the (Scene) reported substitute opponent is only a slight improvement, and is now prepping for Santa Cruz on a mere seven days' notice, whereas Settoul had twelve. Change not updated yet on BR or confirmed anywhere else. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=500288&cat=boxer Jose Cayetano fought in February, losing a wide unanimous decision. Cayetano has, unlike Settoul, never been stopped.
As of like midnight last night BoxRec still had Anthony Settoul listed, but now they finally have Jose Cayetano. Er, rejoice! :!:
A year ago I would've said it was 50-50 between him and Frampton...now I'm 80-20 in Frampton's favor. LSC just ain't progressing with this level of competition.
Look at, for instance, Andre Ward. Smith will be his first opponent in almost three full years, during which time Ward has continued to be recognized as the division's champ even though he fought Rodriguez in effectively a light heavyweight contest. Yet everybody is ready to welcome him back with open arms, even though Smith isn't a great challenger to begin with, and is his first in a year and a half, and will technically be his first "real" super middleweight opponent (Dawson was a drained light heavy; Rodriguez a functional one given his failure to make weight) since Froch three and a half years ago, and is coming off two consecutive losses! atsch Staying on the shelf after Mijares until a big fight could be secured would be far preferable to a run of Roman/Ruiz/Cayetano.
