http://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/news/1494-cristian-mijares-status-in-the-wbc I had Mijares beating Terrazas 116-111. Most observers thought he did enough. FOUR WEEKS LATER, there was a purse bid and Terrazas was signed to defend against Leo Santa Cruz - with Golden Boy Promotions originally planning to put it on the Mayweather vs. Alvarez undercard before eventually bumping it up a few weeks as the co-feature to Mares vs. Gonzalez instead. It doesn't sound like they gave supposed talks of a voluntary defense in an immediate rematch with Mijares all that much of a chance. A month? Was there really that much of a hurry to rush Terrazas back into the ring following a hard-fought war? :huh It seems to me that Mijares got railroaded here - both on the scorecards and in getting elbowed aside to make way for Santa Cruz when he absolutely ought to have been given another crack at Terrazas first. I wouldn't blame him for balking at having to face the far more dangerous LSC for a title he already ought to have claimed...and that's if he even in fact did. I honestly think Santa Cruz would knock Mijares out, but the point is that Mijares either should've been crowned the WBC champ in April in the first place and when that didn't happen there should have been an immediate rematch so he could once more possibly come out with the green belt. Even if only a short reign, at least he would've held it and would've been in a more favorable negotiating position with Santa Cruz when they met...and he wouldn't just be copping a beating for nothing. I'd love to get Mijares' side of the story, and intend to via his social media pages.
Probably, which is why this situation totally sucks for Mijares. He could've at least worn the belt for a little while before getting trampled by Santa Cruz. Instead now he comes begging hat in hand for a title shot as the challenger and will be stopped (brutally, maybe retired) with nothing to show for his last year of work.
I don't think GBP's is interested in promoting a possible Mijares/Santa Cruz fight either. Which I agree w/IB blows from Cristian's POV.
I just think it's weird that they went out of their way to put out a whitewashing press release absolving themselves of blame. It just kind of makes them look worse, like they screwed him over and now are making it out to be his own fault.
