Leo Santa Cruz has suggested that fans were not interested in a fight with Lineal Super Bantamweight Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. While Rigondeaux does have his share of detractors, the contrast in styles intrigued many fans. Oscar De La Hoya attempted to convince Santa Cruz to take the fight, but was advised that the fans would rather see him fight the likes of Jesus Ruis, Manuel Ramos, or Cristian Mijares.

"Haymon told me that it wouldn't be an interesting fight and none of the fans would be happy to see that fight".

So, if you had a choice, would you rather see a Santa Cruz/Rigondeaux unification or defenses against a string of unheralded challengers.

Rofl, he is so shook of rigo. Rigo would bamboozle cruz. He will be dizzy for a month trying to land on El jackal.

Mijares is neither unheralded nor shot.

Mijares is probably Santa Cruz's best win. Mijares beat Terrazas but was robbed.

    :good

Underrated win for LSC, as were Seda & Terrazas before that. Unfortunately that decent run did come to a screeching halt after Mijares...

Lumping him in with Roman and Ruiz is stupid.

There was absolutely no reason for this fight not to happen other then Santa Cruz not wanting to fight Rigo, which is probably the case here.

They were both fresh off wins. Rigo fought on Dec 31st and LSC fought on January 17, Rigo didn't need to wait long for LSC to get his fight over with. Even if Rigo and LSC had mandatories I bet the ABC organizations would have waved off their mandatories just so this fight can happen. This fight made absolute sense and could have happened on late April.

I don't know what the problem was.
