Tasty card coming up with Mares vs Gonzalez and Santa Cruz vs Terrazas as the co main event. Mares had a great showing against Ponce de Leon but I believe Santa Cruz is the real star of the show and given the chance would smash Abner Mares.Ive got high hopes in this kid I really believe hes gonna be something special on the world scene. Anyone else got opposite or similar opinions,please retort.....

His climb has been slow but steady, first turning heads with his knockout of Carita Lopez and then creating even more buzz in his English-language major network US television debut against Malinga and following up with an equally dominant world title grab against Morel. The sky is the limit. Leo has the kick and work ethic of a mule. He will be a horrendous night for anyone in the weight range.
No chance. Mares has the perfect style to beat Santa Cruz. There's no way Leo would be able to handle Abner's variation and movement
Im a Mares fan too but I see something more powerful in Santa Cruz hes like a machine that wont be denied,hes a much more spiteful puncher than Mares every shot is designed to knock his opponents the **** out.Hes not just a one dimensional come forward slugger either which is probably why you think Mares has the beating of him.Hes got great variation in his attacks which is exactly what Ponce De Leon lacked when Mares more or less outboxed him and took him out.Santa Cruz will chop Mares to head and body all night,hel box him if need be but I believe this fight will be a war and Santa Cruz will come out on top. Move over Barrera Morales,,,,
If by perfect style you mean penchant for gonad smashing, well that very well may be Santa Cruz's weakness (provided he is biologically male ) but otherwise no. Mares is a body hitter par excellence but will have met his equal or superior in that regard. Toss in the fact that LSC has a seemingly bottomless gas tank while Mares has been known to fade...
I like Santa Cruz a lot,but mares carries more power,variation and can compete with Santa cruzs biggest strength which is his relentless workrate
See, I believe it's the other way. It's LSC who nullifies Mares' biggest strength (body punching), and IMO his work rate is far beyond Abner's. I also don't think as much of a gulf exists between their power as some might believe. There's been a growing trend I've noticed of people selling Leo's pop short, maybe because so many of his opponents in a long consecutive run have been so durable. Having watched his early career from about 2008, believe me, he can fry anyone's circuitry with a single blow. He just usually emphasizes quantity of touches in his style and thus doesn't sit on everything. When he does, believe me, he and Mares aren't that far apart.
Since when has Mares been a puncher,he hadnt scored a knockout in nearly 3 years before the Ponce fight.He was taken the distance by Eric Morel who Santa Cruz absolutely destroyed in five.Dont get it twisted Santa Cruz is the bigger puncher of the two.He might be able to match the work rate but if he tries to bang with Santa Cruz hel be taken out.
I can't see mares being taken out even if Santa Cruz does better him I used to think mares wasn't all that but the agbeko 2,Moreno and ponce de Leon fights have proven to me that he is the real deal Santa Cruz is a bit behind maybe in development as in regards to level of opposition but I see him dealing well with anyone bar the elite then we will see whether he can as you say take mares out
Mares's performances against Agbeko were horrible,he looked allover the place in the Moreno fight aswell,looking to just smother Moreno and rough him up not really much substance just basically trying to make it a brawl so I was quite surprised with what he produced in the Ponce fight,it was a very nice performance. It just depends what type of fight Abner opts to fight,if he fights smart like he did against Ponce it will probably go the distance but if he decides to bang it out with Santa Cruz I dont think hel see the final bell. Either way this is a fight Im looking forward to,the two of them being on the same card is a huge indication the fight will be made providing both win.
Yeah I have no personal preference and I would watch the bout as a neutral but I think you have just pointed out mares strength.anselmo Moreno is such an underrated fighter that I think mares knew he couldn't outbox him and his excellent footwork meant even controlled agression would be no guarantee of a win so he basically hustled him,jumped on him and threw non stop.it wasn't pretty and I didn't enjoy it from a fans point of view but it was a significant victory over a stellar boxer Also the agbeko rematch was comfortable for mares,his ability to adapt and his Improvements he has made as he has got heavier tells me he is a guy who should be a top 10 p4p for a while yet Still would be a great fight and your right the ponce de Leon performance was very impressive
All i know is that Mares vs LSC would be an awesome fight. Don't give a flying f uck who wins but it would be entertaining that is for sure. make it happen.
