Leonard won the tactical affair...... Leonard boxed Hagler well...... Hagler charged all through, but missed badly early on and was behind big time going into round 5..... YES! Hagler evened the scores during the middle rds, but Leonard came back in rds 10 thru 12 to edge Hagler and take the title away....... I had it 6-5-1 for SRL....... It was a close shave....... Also, this was political to the maxi-pad..... Oddsmakers figured Leonard was gonna exit by way of Hagler's punches within 6 rds...... The pressure was on Hagler to park Leonard...... When Leonard was there in round 12 jiving and still moving on Hagler, I knew Hagler was in deep **** with the judges...... Leonard won........ MR.BILL
The ring size certainly played to Leonard's advantage but I'm not convinced it wouldn't be the same result anyway with the footspeed disparity
Addie, That's another reason why Leonard got the nod in the end from the judges...... Leonard was thought too small and weak, plus too rusty to overcome the baddest 160 pounder in the world in April 1987.... Leonard was 4 to 1 as the underdog..... Barely any of the so-called experts predicted that SRL could pull this off.... BUT! I knew better... I won a pool at work for picking Leonard by 12 round decision..... I was not really all that shocked Leonard out-boxed Hagler in '87...... MR.BILL:bbb:hat
:good:good my scorecard: Marvin Hagler - Ray Leonard 1. 9-10 2. 9-10 3. 10-9 4. 9-10 5. 9-10 6. 10-9 7. 10-9 8. 10-9 9. 10-9 10. 9-10 11. 9-10 12. 10-9 114-114
Hagler fought a bad fight......but still should have gotten a draw.... That being said, i think Leonard deserves credit for not shitting his pants.
It was exposed as a load of mythological bollocks many years ago . I gave it to Leonard by one round, but it was too close for anyone to get steamed up about.
