If we replace Jersey Joe Walcott and put in the spinks of the first ali fight, does Leon upset the apple cart? Whilst spinks was no where near as skilled as Jersey, does he beat Louis? Walcott almost managed it with his foxy moves but would Leons hypo fight go one better, and if so what happens in the rematch? I hate to say it but I have a feeling he'd surprise the champ in this one.
Don't see Leon upsetting Joe, but he would give him a hell of a fight up until the time he was stopped in the eleventh round.
That is true, but do you see a chance of a fast working Leon surprising Joe? Maybe like Ali takin this kid lightly and getting his shots off against a slower Louis?
Ali could not hit exceptionally hard especially at that stage of his career. Louis of course could bang. Leon starts fast but runs into a right that ends it.
Walcott was too elusive for Louis.Spinks would be marching in, the Louis of1947 was a different proposition to the one that faced Marciano.
Walcott was that ok, catching Joe with those sneak punches. Leon couldn't do that. He would just be out there throwing punches to the dozen. I don't think spinks would even try to avoid Joe shots, perhaps a fatal error against any version of louis.
I don’t think that any version of Louis was nearly as far gone as the Ali of the Spinks fight. The version of the Walcott fight would likely put Spinks away very convincingly.
Ali was already suffering from brain damage. Louis barely lost/beat Jersey Joe Walcott a top 20ish heavyweight. There's a world of difference.
He could very well do so. Spinks came on hard against Coetzee, and Gerrie was initially surprised for about a minute before getting his act together. So Louis has some time to work with
