Sugar ray who beat ayub Kalule in 81 for the light middle weight belt verses norris who ko'd John mugabi in 1 round in 1990? So another battle for the two at lght middle but in different circumstances.. Who takes it?
Leonard would stop him. He'd be awkward while it lasted with those sharp hands and excellent power but a young SRL would catch him and once he was hurt finish him.
A young norris would still give a young sugar a hard fight imo but leonard would be one step ahead of him. I see a tactical fight from sugar, and catching norris in the late rounds.
Prime Leonard definitely beats Norris. Terry was very good but Ray was just a cut above in 1981. Seeing Norris beating the old washed up version of Sugar Ray was really sad to watch.
It was sad. Was even worse when he came back against camacho and got stopped. At least against norris he heard the final bell.
Leonard would knock Norris out around the 7th or 8th. Ray was just too strong, too fast and a much better mover and boxer....I cant believe people think Norris who made his career beating shot names would have a chance or even create problems for Ray who went into the furnaces of hell with a blisteringly fast bone breaker like Hearns, a boxing masterpiece like Hagler, a defensively adept animal like duran and a master boxer like benitez and a big huge LH like lalonde and came up smelling of roses.........Leonard outflurries him shuts him out for 6 rounds than ends it in the 7th with a single left hook
The Lalonde vs SRL was at 168 lbs, so that SRL could win the SMW & LHvy titles. Lalonde was forced to come down to 168 to meet SRL demands.....but Lalonde got a big payday...so who could blame him.
The lalonde fight I think was the fight that showed the first deterioration of sugars speed and skill s. Yes he was fighting the natural light heavy but he struggled in there. Lalonde even scored a kd. After this came the hearns draw. Then the boring rubber match with Duran. Then finally the nail in the coffin with norris.
Norris is one of the few who can match him in speed and skill the difference is SRL had a solid chin .ray by stoppage in a great fight.
Norris had speed but was reckless. Julian Jackson ko him in 2 and counter puncher Simon Brown ko him in 4. Norris walks into SRL counter left hook and is stopped in 4 rds.
Some good points there jup. That could well happen , as you pointed out, Jackson and Brown both ko'd him and leonard was a great counter puncher. Very possible out come.
It would Stevie, but it's the old lure of the ring. It's drawn so many back. Ali Louis, holyfield, Jeffries. Only marciano, tunney and Lewis had the best idea to get out.
