    I agree too.

Leonard deserved the Duran II victory and all due credit for it. He made Duran quit, it's not like Duran wasn't expected to win or to be tough going in. Only after the bout did the excuses start.

I'm unlike others who give Leonard more credit for beating Benitez than Duran. Against top fighters, Benitez was not as lethal as Duran was, expect against Hope. Benitez beat Duran but it was a great night for Benitez and Duran didn't have the old fire. At 147 in 1979, I like Duran.

Leonard beating Duran the second time proved how good Leonard was, especially that he adjusted to a killer foe and reversed a loss in a first fight of a series. Usually, the second fight is a worse defeat than the first fight, not a reversal.

your point is irrelevent. Damaged goods is damaged goods

See Eddie mustfa Muhammud drops to 175 down from 200, loses to M SPinks

Roy Jones drops to 174 down from 200, never the same again

Roberto Duran drops from 190+ pounds down to 147

If dropping 25 pounds hurts what must dropping 40 be like? And the guy's a WELTERWEIGHT?

I know people count the Duran fite as one of ray's biggest and need it to help support their claims but he had help and lots of it.

He's a good fighter . let's not go overboard tho

It seemes that Druan has been raised to undeserved mythical proportions for winning the first fight. First of all it was a close fight and the only reason Duran won was because Leonard was willing to fight Duran's fight. It's also not unusual for boxers to skip the Jr./light/super prefex weights. When Leonard fought a style more suitable to him in their second fight he domanated the fight was not as close as the cards show. The word "ass-kicking" is over used, but Leonard's win over Duran in their second bout was an ass-kicking.
Leonard/Duran I: A close fight detrmed by the way the loser chose to fight
Leonard/Duran II: An ass-kicking detrmed by the way the winner chose to fight.

I'm not sure we agree on what constitutes an ass kicking. Jones Toney. Ass kicking. Mayweather Corrales. Ass kicking. Ali Williams. Ass kicking. Leonard was ahead but not 7 zip or even 6-1. He was up by a couple of rounds. And of course it's Duran's fault for being out of shape. He's a professional and he should have known better. But you can't turn around and give Leonard a pass for 'fighting Duran's fight' in Montreal. Unless a witch doctor put a spell on him it's how he chose to fight.

Was Mag going on his usual trip on Duran.. .saying a whole bunch of garbage?

He acts like it doesn't matter than SRL, Hearns, Hagler and W.B. were ALL PRIME and at THEIR PRIME weight when they faced Duran. How on God's green earth can that not matter? One guy had been fighting for over a decade.. The others... were reaching their physical primes or at their primes and at their prime weight. THEY SHOULD'VE WON...The fact that Duran won against a Prime SRL... Took Hagler 15.. are icing on the cake of a great career ALREADY... not ooo he should've done that.
