I know ill probably get some stick for this but I was rewatching the first 2 Leonard/Duran fights last night and id forgot just how bad Leonard was for pot shotting and running in the second fight. Im not nuthugging Duran, i thought he was getting beat and deserves critisism for quitting but Leonard was clowning from the 3rd instead of having a boxing match. Anyway, Andre Direll gets a load of stick for the Froch fight for running away a lot instead of boxing but i havent heard much critisism of leonard for doing mostly the same thing in this fight. Is it just because he won or does throwing in some Ali shuffles and bolo punches (as entertaining as they are) sway it to look like hes confident instead of afraid to stay on the inside for too long
Never heard anyone compare Dirrell to SRL before.. Not sure I want hear it again But to answer your question Ray had proved himself in other ways beforehand, dirrell was born scared.
Fair enough, I should have made it more clear, i was comparing the fights rather than the fighters (i aint putting them in the same sentence together when talking career wise). And your point about leonard proving himself in other fights is valid also. But from round 3-7 leonard pretty much did what Direll did against Froch (albeit more skillfully)
Personally, I thought Dirrell clearly beat Froch, so I'm a bad one to ask, but, that said, the difference is Control. Leonard looked in control of the fight from the get go. Dirrell was effective but looked desperate.
I feel the same. Duran tried to come inside and fight but Leonard easily avoided that to be the better ring general. I actually like most of the second fight but of course Leonard had to be an ass with the taunting in the 7th round. I thought Dirrell clearly beat Froch aswell but he looked scared opposed to Leonard's confident approach. Dirrell would be so much better if he had heart but that goes for many other fighters too. Leonard's heart is bigger than elephants and Dirrell's heart is smaller than cockroaches.
