Yes he did... From Steve Farhood's Ringside coverage (Why Roberto Duran Quit in New Orleans): "Positioned near the ropes, Duran waves his hand to the referee Octavio Meyron and lowers his guard. Not sure what to make of the gesture, Meyron waves the fighters together. Leonard let's go with a combination which Duran doesn't even try to block. Again Duran waves his hand and says "No mas, no more." He walks to his corner and the fight is declared over."
"Duran waves his gloved hand, his manos de piedra, and with that Meyron waves the fight off. No words were needed" There is zero proof Duran ever said no mas. It's on a par with the loch ness monster.
I was quoting from an article at the time. Added to other witnesses and video evidence, I suggest a study could give empirical proof, if for some reason it were ever needed...
Even if there's no conclusive proof he uttered those words, the fight is synonymous with Duran quitting. Which, as highlighted above, is something he definitely did.
I read/heard somewhere that he said im not fighting this clown anymore. Don King dropped him then he became bigger than ever lol
