Tweeted this yesterday. Probably the first time I've ever agreed with him, but it's a very true statement. There is a difference between a boxing star and a PPV star. Golovkin, as it stands, is a boxing star who is putting in his work in trying to become a PPV star. And like Ellerbe said, it is extremely difficult. Golovkin does have star power, but it won't be truly immersed into the american, casual fan public until he gets his crossover fight with another PPV star (Mayweather, Canelo, Cotto). Keep it in perspective: Mayweather is a global superstar who fought a no name last fight and brought in 400,000K. Golovkin isn't a mainstream star and fights a no name so what do you honestly expect it to bring in? Golovkin did about 25% of what Mayweather did. For a Khazak who debuted on HBO 3 years ago and isn't mainstream... that's not bad. Plus how many times was Mayweather on HBO before he fought on PPV? Many, many times! Golovkin has fought on HBO only 9-10 times and has been in America for just 3 years. PPV is a huge level when you are an athlete superstar, and it won't be something that happens over night- not even for GGG. Which is what a lot of people on here are not getting... His team needs to keep doing what they're doing: continue fighting frequently, target the stars (Canelo/Cotto), attend Oscars, NBA games, ESPN sport shows, movie premiers, big events, talk shows. It may sound silly, but that's how expand your brand to the casuals. He's doing it. So, he's on the right track. I see the star potential in Golovkin, but it's just going to take time. Canelo would expedite the process in the same way Oscar did for May and Pac, etc which is why it's good for K2 to keep cornering him. So overall, for the GGG and non-GGG fans, STOP holding Golovkin's PPV numbers to the standard of actual PPV stars because he's not one. These PPV numbers don't declare anything other than that he is working to become a PPV attraction and it is something that will take time- which shouldn't surprise anyone.
The PPV made about 7,500,000 Dollars, that would buy Ellerbe a hell of a lot of smooth hairless Puerto Rican Male Escorts he's so fond of.
There's no way that man is straight. Not in a million years. He's as gay as a naked man sharing a bed with Elton John. [YT]Rot-UnuC7NA[/YT]
Leonard Ellerbe is straight as an arrow A great family man And a future H.O.F One of the best second assists, co-trainer, str/conditioning trainer CEO's boxing has ever seen.
Maybe team GGG shouldn't have been shouting off about being clear A side superstars. Then they wouldn't be catching flack.
In hind sight you are right, but considering the MSG sell out, the Apple commercial, the Rolling Stone & Forbes articles and all the mentions of his name on ESPN, I really thought the fight would do in the 300,000 range. I am genuinely surprised and I stand corrected.

Real boxing fans know this, BUt its fun to mess with the Over the Top GGG fans because they get so angry...:rofl
