Leonard Ellerbe comments on Golovkin's PPV numbers

That's because a large chunk of his career was made by fighting the Mexican/Hispanic style. Its a style that he is familiar and comfortable with. Just look down Floyd resume and you'll see a lot of them and a lack of any skilled African-American boxer types. Mosley really doesn't count because he fights like a Hispanic more than he does a skilled AA.

Bigger than 150k but yea, generally "exciting" fighters attract more attention.

 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's hopeless for Bumlovkin. He'll be *34* next spring and he has no big, crossover type fights on the horizon. Continuing to knock over TOMATO CAN after TOMATO CAN isn't going to make Bumlovkin a PPV draw. Until the Triple Duck is willing to fight the big fights *which are available to him* he'll forever be HBO's PPV bottom feeder. If he keeps fighting TOMATO CANs, sooner or later he's going to take an "L" from one of them. The time is now to step up and fight the big fights.

hes fine with that.....fighting bums is better to him than losing to ward....and he knows the writing on the wall with fighting ward which is why they hightailed it out of negotiating.......theyd rather not have the image shattered and contine to run with it than lose to ward and have it shattered....they dont feel they can beat ward

 

Golovkin definitely has a lot of scope. 150k is not exactly good at all but it certainly does show promise. If he faces Cotto/Canelo winner (so casuals know who he actually is), and then goes on to beat upcoming known fighters, all whilst being effectively marketed (this is not about Golovkin here, but the HBO business team), he can be quite a big name.
Golovkin hasn't fought many times on HBO. Leonard Ellerbe was reasonable in his assessment and wasn't licking Mayweather's ass in doing so, unlike Floyd fanboys.

I would attend that if it was close and reasonably priced, sure. If I'm going to buy a flight and do the whole fight week thing I'd much rather do something huge, like Triple God vs. Tuereno Johnson 😎

 

Deontay vs Povetkin would be far better than any GGG fight out there.
