Marquez has more than proved himself at 147. He has only lost one fight against top p4p fighters at that weight - and that was Floyd. He schooled Pacquiao once, and knocked him out the other - all that when Marquez was even older and less prime.


Hatton was a world champ at welter. Plus he called out Mayweather. Mayweather wasnt fighting at 140 at the time, so it had to be at 147 if Hatton wanted the fight.

This belongs in the other thread, the above clouds the truth in ways on a ***** can't understand. Understand this , Mayweather is a great fighter, one of the 3 or 4 true greats of the last 10-15 years, there aren't THAT many threats to him because of his brilliant defense and ring generalship, and the fact that 147 is crap and those good guys are with Top Rank (convenient Floyd doesn't deal with Arum isn't it?) but there have been several great fighters at their peak who offer threats in style he has blatantly avoided...

The guy fights once a year on average if that, the less he fights the longer he stays undefeated. This has been covered endlessly, you guys can continue to quote the above...Baldomir, really? A 34 year old Gatti who was never that great to begin with? An over the hill DLH which he made hard work of? A shot and gun shy Miguel Cotto who doesn't even belong at 154 and has to ask others to fight him at 150? Marquez, a lightweight that floyd agreed to fight at 144 only to come in at 146 who offers ZERO style difficulties for Floyd? Hatton, another guy who came up in weight...a 38 year old Mosley who hadn't fought for over 18 months! Ortiz? Really? Are you even dignifying that circus show?

The ones you should have mentioned are Corrales and Castillo who I take nothing away from Floyd, even though he lost 1 of those. But 147 onwards his resume is a carefully chosen opponent list. It's obvious he has to fight guys with belts or guys that are highly ranked or he wouldn't make any money - no one is saying he fights no-hopers no one has heard of, but they carefully chosen in terms of style or he waits for a visible decline before he faces them and hides behind the stats as you all do, every fighter can quote stats to defend their resume...Mayweather 135 downwards was a different story and a fighter I liked and respected...

 

Come on man, Victor Ortiz for the p4p No 1 that fights once a year?! Maybe would be OK if Floyd fought 2 / 3 times. Otherwise it was like bullying a prospect.

Marquez hasnt done **** at WW. Knocking Pac out, the very same Pac that Floyd and his fans said was easy work. Marquez weighed in closer to 140 than 147. So no, Marquez at the time wasnt a top WW, he was a LW - that is a fact.

Hatton was a champ at 147, after a robbery against Collazo and a shell of JLC. He called him out? So everyone that does that gets to fight Floyd? Again, Hatton would have been ok had it been amongst Floyds 2 or 3 fights a year - without that, not.

Floyd says hes like the superbowl? Once a year?

Imagine how popular the superbowl would be if it was a ATG team against teams that only reach the playoffs once every 10 years?

Yes the facts indeed, the saying lies lies and statistics comes to mind. It is my opinion and in fact the opinion of most boxing fans who are not Mayweather nuthuggers...

We'll agree to disagree, it would be nice if a Floyd fan could genuinely admit their idol has taken well chosen fights since 2005 - even 50 cent said how carefully his opponent is chosen.

But I geuss that's the nature of fan - comes from the word fanatic so there's no reasoning

 

You sound like Mayweather - the Ortiz fight was a sideshow, a freak act which ripped off people who paid for it. It was a disgrace...Ortiz was just grateful for the payday...it's crazy how you can even defend that fight
