First you tell me I wasnt there then you tell me I didnt know what I was looking at and now you tell me "plenty of greats have". Your explanation changes to suit the situation. Which greats John? You know that it's usually the other way around Cuevas got roughed up and probably got the worst of it to Ayala but both were pretty young at the time and besides that, it's not the first time I've seen a senior in high school get beaten up by a freshman. Tyson got floored by page but Page was an ex world champion himself. Occasionally they get injured the way Hagler did in 1986 and I know he once got his ribs cracked in 82 but he wasnt outboxed and unable to lay a glove by all three sparring partners. This had never happened to Hagler before. By the way can you tell me why leonard suddenly procalimed after watching Hagler from ringside for 6 years "I can beat him"?
How about Ali? And the other pertinent question........ What other sparring sessions had you gone to of Hagler's? :yep
What about ALi? stop playing dumb John you've been pulling this stunt the last couple months we all know it's not every day that sparring partners embarrass a world champion especially someone like Hagler. Now can you tell me why all of a sudden after 6 years of watching Hagler at ringside that leonard proclaimed "I can beat Marvin Hagler"?
John first you tell me me I had not seen the sparring session because you were in denial that Hagler was outsped by his sparring partners. That is an indirect acknowledgement from you that if I had seen it and if it were true which at the time you said I didnt know what I was looking at, then Hagler was just another fighter ready to be taken by pretty much anyone So all you've done it box yourself into a corner without realizing it. Now could you answer the question I'd asked otherwise it's going to look as if you're hiding something important. Why did Leonard after watching Hagler from ringside for 6 years suddenly say "I can beat him". I think it would be interesting to know your latest excuse.
One thing for sure, I think Ray will last longer than Tommy, as he will stick and move instead of engage, which is suicide against Hagler. However, it is only a matter of time before Marvin catches Ray and runs him down. Leonard is too small for prime Marvin.
Im not even sure he lasts as long as Tommy. Everytime someone touches him he gets bowled over to the canvas. Even Kevin Howard who was much smaller managed to do it which surprised even me. Someone this fragile isnt going to last long so he was smart to keep himself retired. I'd still like to se an explanation why Leonard would proclaim after 6 years "I can beat him" which really tells you that the eye excuse was bogus. He said the same thing 3 years earlier after watching Duran take Marvin 15 without hitting the canvas and then he came out. I unlike other fans dont appreciate being lied to about these bogus retirements So you see I was right all along. I'm not bragging but proven this beyond any doubt. That's why no one dares refute it.
Leonard said the guy was mechanical. And Marvin was a mechanical fighter in there w/ those combinations. Leonard certainly did his homework on opponents and saw a major flaw he could exploit. I sure don't see too many other middles fighting these 3 opponents and not having troubles; prime Hearns/ prime Mugabi/ and then a Ray Leonard. Anyone is going to have a tough tough time with that level of opposition & it just illustrates the fact that Marvin didn't pick his spots & would fight anyone anywhere and anytime. You hear lots of fighters make that claim but very very few examples of guys backing it up. Hagler was the rare breed that did.
Leonard beats hagler at any stage by similar means of the 87 fight. Ray has too much speed, acumen and skill. The earlier the fight the better rays stamina will be. Ray proved he could outbox hagler and stand in the pocket and outpunch hagler for brief periods in their 87 encounter. The duran fight showed how hagler struggles against those atgs posessed of 'genius' strategy wise, and that was an old heavy roberto. Leonard has size, speed and youth over that duran, and hagler was peak v roberto. In hindsight hagler would never have beaten a young leonard.
To be clear, do you think Leonard would've beaten the slick boxer-puncher version of Hagler of the late 70's and early 80's?
Oh,the self proclaimed master hey? Your just another couch educated manassa, split pea..... To be clear, power puncher seems to be saying something similiar to me yet you adress him decently, yet try to insult me? Shows your maturity, now run along.....
