Leonard-Hearns two of the best fights ever in the sport, one happened at welter the other at Super Middleweight, did you know that they where both catchweight bouts? If my memory serves me correctly the first match in the early 80s happened well below 147, both guys came in around 144 and 145...the rematch years later was around 165...well below 168, did you like those fights, well according to some of your logic they are irrelevant and black eyes to the sport, title fights should only happen at the limit......As for me I'm glad Leonard and Hearns did what they had to do to make the fights happen, ATG'S regardless of their weight!!

they both may have weighed under the limit...but i don't recall it being contracted below the limit. if it was....more than likely leonard is the one that initiated it. he's famous for that bull****. *see his fight with donnie lalond.

Weighing in below the limit isn't a catchweight.

I'm pretty sure those weren't catchweight bouts, but merely bouts in a division which the fighters chose to weigh in well below.

I'm from Detroit and I had heard that Hearns was overtrained before the first fight. Hearns weighed in at 145 but it wasn't because he was contractually obligated to do so.

I think that Hearns team made a huge mistake coming that light, Leonard came at 146. There was not contracted CW as stated.

Weighing in under the limit isnt a catch weight, there is no rule that you have to weigh in right on the limit.

Basically it wasn't a catch weight as even though they weighed in light they had the option to weigh in right on the division limit.

    This.

The first wasn't a catchweight fight.

ya i think it was ferdie pacheco that was going on and on during the fight about hearns being too light. we don't need a code red for this. he can't handle the truth.

yeah you pretty much better stick with sucking floyds balls because you know shi.t about boxing in general. in fight 1 they each had one of the welterweight titles and it was a unification fight.
fight #2 was at 168 7 years later after the both had been fighting at that weight and even above it in the case of hearns :-(

Glad to see u all know something about boxing outside of your normal squalor...yes they both came in well under the limit, isn't that what usually happens in catchweight fights...just cause it's not in the contract didn't mean they didn't fight well short of the weight limit, I'm sure Hearns apologists claimed he was drained nonetheless

hearns was massively ahead on the scorecards when he was stopped in 14 rounds, and it wasnt because he got tired or was drained.

It wasn't a catchweight, they weighed the way they wanted to within the division's limit comfortably without any contract demanding a certain limit.

Exactly, the rematch was a Catchweight of 164 pounds insisted by Leonard. Had Hearns weighed anything above he would have to pay Leonard $500,000 for each extra pound.

Correction! Leonard-Hearns 2 was fought at a catchweight, of precisely 162 lbs with Sugar Ray Leonard's WBC Supermiddleweight strap on the line, with Leonard coming in at 160 and Hearns coming in at the exact contractual catchweight limit of 162. The first one, being that it was a major most wanted unification showdown for both the WBC & WBA Welterweight belts, was fought at the Welterweights 147 lb limit with Sugar Ray coming in at 146 and Hearns coming in at a perhaps too light 145.
