Not long after Hagler passed i wondered how long until this turns into a Leonard hate fest. It is why when i suggested that we do a couple of close Marvin fights for fight of the week i said but not against Leonard. We should be remembering Marvin for Marvin. There's plenty there to admire. He's a lot more than one fight against Sugar Ray Leonard for gods sake Banging on about Leonard is taking away from Hagler. I'm surprised this thread was passed actually.
I do respect your opinions, and you are correct, maybe more of my dislike is to the poster you and I know that displays disrespect to Muhammad Ali by constantly referring to him by his former name, Clay. He said that Ali was stuck on himself, but so was someone else who I will no longer comment on, and I do not believe it is Ali. The older folks I can understand calling him by his former name, but to display racism by using politics is not tolerable. But you are right about Leonard, maybe it is best that I stay out of the dissatisfaction discussion about Ray Leonard. As far as liking me, I appreciate you as well, but honestly I know there are quite a few that do not, and that is okay too.
Leonard is just one of those guys, man. Either you love him or you hate him or you like him or you dislike him or you're kind of meh about him and aren't sure either way, respect him but have kind of a levelheaded unemotional appreciation of him. In some ways, he's like Hagler that way.
Ray Leonard is a con artist. A lot of smoke and mirrors and the og deck stacker. To he feels like a coward and a snake the way he handled the Duran rematch or how he threated Hagler his whole career. Those fights and Hearns rematch which he lost unfairly elevates his legacy. At the same time he was an excellent boxer and s howed heart when in trouble. Which made it more frustrating that he behaved so sneaky and cowardly his whole career. Similair like how I feel about Floyd.
I have always given the man way more respect than he ever showed others. He has no more class than Adrien Broner, may be a better fighter yes, but class and manners he is cut from same cloth as Broner.
I don't like OJ simpson the person but the juice on the football field was somethin else. Ray in the ring aint many like him he was FEROCIOUS. Just like mike tyson u gotta have that lion in u. As a person hes a little bit like that uncle tom in the family but even against the marvelous one (greatest middleweight of all time) he won the early rounds which paid off just like lopez against loma. It was one of the biggest fights in boxing history they both share that part of history
Me either. I just like boxing & was repulsed by Leonard's statement. Hagler would be too and see right through to what Leonard was doing.
