I think your choice in adjectives for Leonard is a bit harsh, although I do find it impersonal of Ray, not too mention weird.

 

So you read that whole interview and found that statement "repulsive"? Seemed like a heartfelt expression of grief and reverence to me, even if it was a bit of a clumsy thing to say.

I think you're letting whatever hatred you have toward Leonard cloud your thinking. As the likes and some of the other comments show though, you're certainly not alone.

 

A lot of the most outspoken Leonard haters seem to be Duran or Hagler fanboys who resent Leonard for embarrassing their heroes and arguably tainting their legacies. Others resent him for reasons that they never seem to hold against other fighters, like the fact that his wholesome media persona diverged from the ugly realities of his personal life.

 

He's anything but new to these forums. No doubt he's an old poster been banned numerous times creates new account and starts intentionally divisive, controversial threads like this for attention.
I wonder what his previous Alt was ??

 

Marvin Hagler fanboys (not true fans) spend more time talking about Leonard than they do their supposed hero. A very weird obsession & hatred they have for Leonard.

 

I've just watched the full fight again and it was razor thin whoever you had winning.

Hagler was the work horse but Leonard was landing the harder and more eye catching shots and combinations.

Hagler was doing some good inside work and hurt Leonard in the middle rounds but he was always one step behind.

As for Leonard not hurting Hagler, trust me those shots were getting his respect, especially those monster body shots as Hagler came in.

I love Hagler but I think Leonard given the circumstances was the more impressive of the two.

 

What was do cowardly about the way he handled the rematch?..have you even watched that fight?
I thought it was a pretty good fight and a good clash of styles and if I remember correct it was Duran who acted cowardly by refusing to continue when he was perfectly healthy.
Of course I still have more respect for Duran as a fighter to call him a coward, just pointing out the hypocrisy in your statement

You can be a coward and still an atg. Same goes for Floyd, Canelo or Wlad Klitschko.
I just dislike boxers who manipulate everything to go their ways.

And Srl is one of the worst at this. You can find it calculating or smart but to me its cowardly and sneaky. The way they rushed the rematch, the showboating tactics. The whole thing is a set up.

I like Leonard in the fights with hearns, benitez or Duran in Montreal.

But also with Hagler its even worse. First he ducked him, then was always around watching waiting for him to slip,pretended to be his friend to feel him out where his mind was in wanting to quit. Then after Hearns/Mugabi he needed to get all attention back on him rather than Hearns 2.0
Stacked the deck again in his favour, spies in his camp, manipulating media, crowd and judges with his dumb flurries and last 30 seconds strategies. Ducking the rematch. Just everything about him regarding Hagler, and the public ate it up.

He should have fought Hagler in 82/83 if he was a man.

To each his own but I prefer guys like Hagler, Duran, Morales etc. The type that dont care and fight everyone all out. You win or lose fairly without all the machiavellism and corruption -(118-110 deserved a lifelong ban).

Doesnt mean you cant be great though even as a snake. But people will always see trough the bs statements and acts even years later.

 

They didn’t really sneak the Duran rematch. He had plenty of time to prepare for the fight. This is just one of those myths that will never die, thanks in part to Leonard’s going along with it to try to make himself look shrewd.
