Leonard vs. Robinson

Someone once said there was a comparison between Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Ray Robinson. Believe me, there's no comparison. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest. - Sugar Ray Leonard

 

Robinson for sure. Posessed the skillset plus considerably more firepower. Had a harder edge too.

 

Robinson was superior by far in accomplishment and the better fighter no doubt. Robinson gave rematches, Leonard weasled out of them to find easier opponents. If he were so great he wouldnt have lost the way he did to Norris regardless of being 34. He was favored. You wuld think legends would put on better losing performances

Leonard had the edge in defense from what I've seen of them but overall Robinson was better. I'm a fan of all 3 Sugars(SRR,SRL,SSM) with Mosley being my fav of the three & fav fighter in general.

 

I don't think it would look like a mirror, Robinson wins imo.

 

I do not favor anyone over prime welterweight Robinson. But Leonard could have put on a hell of a fight with him.

 

Yeah, he would with anyone, he'd beat most. Leonard seemed to have some kind of crazy x-factor that enabled him to win.

 

The ultimate dreamfight at heavyweight would be Ali-Louis. Robinson-Leonard would be THE one at welterweight,obviously. Robinson was the slightly better fighter,imo.

 

There is the end of the debate, right there!

Ray Robinson was/is the greatest P4P fighter in the history of Boxing! NO DOUBT! Ray Leonard is an all time great, but at Welterweight, prime for prime, he does not beat Robinson!

Robinson hits harder imo!

 

It would be a great fight. I wouldnt write Leonard off but i would put my money on SRR. Nothing like looking in a mirror though i see them as totaly diffrent fighters stylisticaly.

 

It would be pretty close, Leonard maybe a little faster, Robinson the better more compact puncher, Robinson rangier. Its hard to make a pick

 

I will go on record as saying Leonard beat better fighters (Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Kalule, Hagler) ... not saying he was better but at 147 and 154 Leonard beat better men ... Robinson managed to somehow not fight many top guys but feasted on the Olsens, the Turpins, the Basilos, the Fullmers, all very tough guys but not all time greats. LaMotta was the best man he ever fought over 147. LaMotta was a hell of a fighter but he was probably not a top ten all time middleweight ...

Ray Leonard in my book would likely have been outpointed but it would be a hell of a fight ... Robinson could possibly outbox him as he was taller, had a slightly longer reach and could pull a Hearn's type boxing match without being exposed by a shaky chin or stamina ...
