I think you hit upon something here. Hearns is a critical analogy. Robby actually resembled Tommy a bit in his earlier matches against more defensively oriented opponents like Angott. But Robinson was far more durable and experienced at his peak than Hearns was in 1981. SRL readily acknowledged to Sal Marciano immediately after their WW unification epic how Tommy had the intelligence and ability to outmaneuver him. Unlike Hearns, the much tougher Robby would not be buckling, gassing, or getting overtaken as the rounds progressed.
