Not surprising. He rates Camacho above Leonard.

    Everyone's entitled to one...

I am not a Leonard fan at all; but it is hard to believe that Leonard ducked Pryor out of fear, while on the other side he faced guys like Hagler, Duran and Hearns.

It is more logical and credible to assume that Leonard "ducked" Pryor not because fear, but because financial reasons, health issues (his retina problem and early retirement) or just bad timing: Sugar had just bigger fish to fry and bigger payloads on his sight and Pryor was probably not very high in Leonard's "must fight" list

i read an interesting article about this the other day. ill see if i can find it. basically it says that pryor admits he avoided a fight with ray and how stupid the idea of ray being scared of pryor is given the fact he faced duran, hagler & hearns.

On another note, damn shame the Duran/Pryor fight never came off. Hawk wouldve lit a fire under Duran quickly with his words, competitiveness and willingness to fight in the ring - wouldve put the No Mas debacle behind a lot sooner instead of the limbo and further embarrassing defeats that followed.

Duran couldve been a very special welterweight As well if he'd put his mind to doing it. On his biggest night, he wouldve been game for anybody at 147. He beat the consensus #2 welterweight ever. I give him a very fair shake at Robby, Napoles, Armstrong, Walker and yes, even Hearns.

On the other hand I've read that Pryor-Leonard was almost made in the fall of 1982.

Leonard announced his retirement, fight didin't took place and Pryor fought Arguello instead.

Maybe someone read something about that too?

Quite frankly, despite that Pryor-Arguello was one of the greatest fights,
I 'd swap them both for one Duran-Pryor!

    Without a doubt.

All due respect to Arguello, but he was overwhelmed at that point and too far out of his element. Can you imagine Pryor staring down Duran and pointing at him like he did Alexis, oh you son of a *****..

    What an ridiculous statement.

Leonard fought the greatest fighters of his era. All but Hagler were prime or near prime. Hagler , while older was threfar more active fighter when they met.

Perhaps you can name the one world class welterweight than Pryor defeated ?

This is another urban myth...SRL scared of Pryor? Preposterous. More revisionism...if you are old enough to have been around at the time (I am, I'm afraid!) the thought of SRL being scared of Pryor is quite simply laughable.

He was afraid of Hagler, that's why it took him 5 yrs to get in the ring and face him. Same with Micheal Nunn. He wouldnt face Mike. He'd face over the hill Duran & Hearns any day of thw week than to dare face Mike

and apparantly he feared Aaron, that's why the fight never came about
