13 pages and not 1 mention of the greatest staredown of all time* by Leonard towards Benitez before their fight, Benitez' staredown was also elite but Ray's was sheer arrogance, a real "I'm better than you" sneer, I love this moment and I can understand why SRL is hated by some, he makes a great villain. (I suppose that last bit will sound weird to those of you who lived through this era with Ray being the golden boy of his generation?)

*Honourable mention to Mike Tyson, who put on multiple staredown clinics.

The thread was flawed from the very beginning with the OP's opening statement.

Anybody want to hazard a guess what would have happened had Leonard ,Hearns and Hagler moved up 20 to 25 pounds to fight a prime Duran? ........Knockouts

This was an irrational hate thread from the beginning. The guys with an overwhelming hate for a fighter cant be convinced of that fighters accomplishments anyway, they will just pick that fighters resumee apart like almost anyones resumee can be picked apart

Im not interested in your hypothetical fan fiction. Duran LOST, it was like 30 freaking years ago. Nobody drugged him and nobody robbed him, he lost. No one forced him to move up, get over it.

You are the one who seems like he's having trouble getting over something. "Hypothetical fan ficion" is what the classic forum is about.

Er....you do know duran trained 2 weeks for hearns after a food and partying binge post the hagler fight?

I could see duran of montreal beating tommy at 147....i could see the trained hungry duran ofvthe barkley fight beating the vulnerable hearns of 1989...

He avenged the Duran loss - Duran quit for Christ's sake

He kod Hearns in the fight that mattered

He deserved the decision against Hagler in most people's eyes. Even if you think Hagler squeaked by, it was a very impressive performance from Leonard as everyone thought he would get destroyed.

    Leonard
    Hagler
    Duran
    Hearns

So ... you're saying Duran went on a food and partying binge for seven months after the Hagler fight ...

Then went to the gym for two weeks before the Hearns fight ... and ended up weighing in two-and-a-half pounds LESS than he did for Hagler?

After a seven-month eating/drinking binge and two weeks of training?

Brilliant. What was he binge eating for seven months? Prunes? What was he binge drinking? Syrup of Ipecac?

Get your head out of your @ss.

Hearns destroyed him. End of story.

I dont have anything to "get over". Im not the one making a trillion excuses and using revisionist history. Ive accepted the results of the fab 4 at face value. Its ONLY ever duran whiners who cant let it go even though he quit in one rematch and CHOSE to move up and challenge the monstrous hearns and hagler and came up short. I give him all the credit in the world for daring to be great. People like you want to take away from the actual winners.

All ATG's though...this and the '40's probably the best eras in and around this weight class(es)..IMO.

Good response but Ill clarify what I said. Duran spent 6 weeks purely losing weight by going in saunas and running. He only did two weeks boxing training in a gym. He was on a binge for 5 months. If u saw some of this guys typical meals u would know the damage it did on his stomach, skin and rectum which are all important areas for a fighter to control. Look at no mas. It is clear his post weigh in binge resulted in Robertos rectum control being weak. He was dying for a s**** in that fight that's why he quit. He knew he had white trunks on. The humiliation worldwide would have been never lived down.......legendary latin tough guy shitts in pants in ring......the headlines would have screamed

If he shat himself and soldiered on like a warrior he probably would have added to his legend!!!!
