I remember that fight quite well, Sonny Liston was seriously considered for a possible title bout with 5 State Champion Joe Frazier if he could defeat Leotis Martin, who was stopped by WBA Champion Jimmy Ellis in 1967 during the WBA Tournament.

 

Great footage! No way Sonny is 37 years old. He has to be a lot older.

Also, notice the reach of Liston, 80,5 inch.
A great reach but way more realistic than the 84 inch that was always claimed for Sonny Liston.

 

Too bad it didnt happen. A Frazier vs Liston fight at that point would have been great.

 

I agree, it would have answered a lot of questions of Frazier's durability against big punchers.
