Conditions Les couldn't dream of?:lol::rofl:rofl Darcy grew up the poorest of the poor in Newcastle, a renowned tough working class city even today. I could be wrong but wasn't Greb from a comfortable middle class family and chose to fight?

Darcy turned pro so young cause there was never much hope in Newcastle, plus his dad was an alcoholic and he had to support his whole family.

No it is Greb who could never imagine the conditions Darcy grew up in. No one in history has turned pro at 14 to support their whole family because they are that poor.

I love Darcy and I think he could have been one of the best Middles or Lt Heavies (as he was fast outgrowing middleweight by the time he was 20) ever....but sadly it didn't happen.

His potential was unlimited but unfulfilled by circumstance and even though I'm confident Les could have beaten Greb in 1915-16 (Greb hadn't come close to his peak yet) it's pointless speculating what would happen afterwards or trying to denigrate Grebs' record for Darcy's benefit.

Fact is Darcy was one of boxings great tradgedies and what if's but Harry Greb was one of the absolute very best fighters ever, unquestionably. His run from 1918 onwards was truly amazing and probably unique in it's quantity and quality of opposition and success rate and it's unlikey Darcy could match him (no shame in that either because I don't think anyone else has come close to matching it yet).

Hey I never said Les was faster than Greb. I was talking about a more intense pace. Of course if you've ever stepped into a ring you might know some of this lingo.

But you go right ahead putting words in people's mouths.:good
Silver spoon sucking journo's are good at that.

Yeah thats cool I like Greb too I think he was a great fighter. We just never seen him fight and from the way people talk about his style he would be open for Darcy to take apart.

    Tailor made for him.

Anyway there is Joe Frazier who also fought blind in an eye, and no one on here ranks him above Foreman when he was clearly superior.:rofl:lol:

Greb would be open for Darcy to take apart / How you gonna hurt what you cannot hit ? No one in 290 bouts "took Greb apart"...

Joe Frazier was not completely blind in one eye as Greb was. Today Greb woud have been banned by the Boxing Commissions after the Kid Norfolk fight when he was thumbed in the eye and suffered a detatched retina...

Well when you never fight anyone on Darcy's level that's understandable. Tunney took Greb apart.

Also you keep saying how no one in 290 fights took him apart then I mention Joe Chip you go all defensive crying how green he was. You are the one who brought up the 290 fights and Chip was in that 290 fights wasn't he not?

Thats true he was green just dont go saying no one ever took him apart in 290 fights when people did.

Strangely enough, we like having historians and journalists on this website. And we definitely don't like to see them getting attacked by supposed newcomers.

I'm not going to ban you, but I am going to close the thread. If you can't debate these issues like an adult, I'll have to give you the heave-ho.

If you make a big claim, you will be asked to back it up on this forum, and if you can't people will just have to make their own minds up about how creditable or not a source you actually are. But you shouldn't be surprised to be asked, and you shouldn't react aggressively when you're asked.
