Les Darcy died at the age of just 21 while in the US and his embalmed body was sent home to Australia for burial in East Maitland. Arnold Thomas from the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame, which raised more than $60,000 to repair the grave, says the vault is rapidly deteriorating, due to flooding and collapsing walls. This content is protected Mr Thomas says he was shocked at what he saw on a recent visit to the Darcy family vault at East Maitland cemetery. "Les Darcy's coffin is very severely damaged, sitting on a pool of water," he said. "The top of the coffin has been badly broken exposing his remains, it's very, very distressing for me to see something like that. "Les Darcy's family, his mother and his brother, their coffins are covered by a massive pile of mud. "It's going to take quite a bit of work to clean up."

this is sad... the gladiators motor cycle club, hold a annual les darcy day every yr inviting heaps of amatuers to compete in exhibitions and raising money for there boxing clubs and local communtiy, they put alot of money into the statue that has been erected of les... i will speak to 1 of the boys and inform them of the situation....
Spoke to some people yesterday, maitland council, the les Darcy foundation are aware of the repair needed to the Darcy family grave as it is not just les buried their but his whole family, the process is slowed up as the president of the les Darcy foundation died when fundraising and funds have been missed placed, local organizations are trying to come upmwith the money and find the lost funds, I was told approx $120k to restore the grave
Yeah, dont expect local councils to pay for it on their own. Parasites they are....too busy organising tender contracts for friends and associates so they can get a nice kick back. As corrupt an organisation as any those mobs.
