Yeah.. try this on for size.. "Shannan.. get a move on mate.. C'mon, if ya dont get brain damage I wont stop the fight.. Chop Chop lad.. C'mon.. " Andriy... how would you actually assume the next 6 rounds would go??
We all know what Taylor is like by now after almost 60 fights....if he was wronged by the ref he would have been bouncing round the ring spitting the dummy :deal In the end he agreed with the stoppage and did not mention it after the fight :deal
that says more about taylor. disappointing for the viewers, disappointing for jamie as a promoter, disappointing for fox. we feared shannan might not show up and he didnt. whether phil decided to stop due to that, im sure he'll 'phil' us in.
Sherro is just too big, too strong, too fast and too young for Shannan at 168lbs. A ref's main concern should always be a fighters well being. Better to stop a fight too early than too late.
Taylor showed nothing the whole fight, didnt respond when he was on the ropes getting smashed. Seemed like a fair stoppage to me.
To be honest, I feel no need to justify this stoppage whatsoever. I am sorry if you think looking after a fighter's health and safety upset the show in your view, as for Fox - both commentators thought the stoppage was spot on. Brad Gallagher came up and hugged me and said I had done the right thing. You are correct about one thing - Shannan had stopped being competitive. He had been badly creased up by two body shots went back against the ropes and did nothing, he was asked to return fire and he did not. If you honestly think that none of those punches landed you are blind. I respect your opinion that you don't like the way I referee, it's your right and obviously not everyone is gunna like the way I do things - that's life. But to say that none of those punches landed is bull**** IMO. Take care now Phil
Had a very breif chat with Taylor a couple of hours ago. He felt no disappointment in the stoppage, although he was hoping to get through the next couple of rounds to allow Sherrington to slow up a bit. He said Phil did stop it at the right time regardless.
taylor could probably have gone the distance and not be seriously hurt. but he was just gunna cop more of the same because he wasn't throwing any punches. in fact he barely threw many punches the whole fight. he wasn't happy in the ring but he had two fists to turn the fight around but did nothing. i don't know how he expected to win. not much point watching a completely one sided fight either.
thats the only fight teke and ash enjoy :good dam dam dam, why didnt i bet on shero...paying over 1.90.... i crapped on thru this thread i was goin to and didnt....****
Thanks Phil. That wasnt ownage, Ash. Fair response to my view. Like I said (think I said anyway), from my view I didnt see any punches. I was a bit busy during the fight, but watched pretty closely on our screen if any laned. I didnt see it. Phils the ref, Im not. My view was my immediate reaction to the limited details I had. Id have to see it [that flurry] again, but on 2 viewings on screen.. I didnt see any penetrate Shannas defence. Overall, I think its clear that Shannan didnt want to continue. That will override any speculation of any of the other circumstances.
no worries mate, we will leave it at that. However if you ever say you are not a fan of my reffing again I will have you hunted down and shot!
